Postcards and mosquito bites

Barcelona: One of my best meals in Barcelona. Restaurante Rincon de Aragon in El Raval. Carrer del Carme, 28

Berlin: Best Japanese ramen ever at Cocolo! Gipsstraße 3

Berlin: Burger at The Bird in Prenzlauer Berg. Am Falkplatz 5

Berlin: Cheesecake heaven at Princess Cheesecake. Tucholskystraße 37

Nice: Mouthwatering pastries on the street

Nice: Visited Monastère de Cimiez after walking up the hills alone.

Nice: Jardin d’Eden designed by Yves Klein on the MAMAC roof terrace.

Paris: The Marrocan deli at Marché des Enfants Rouges in Le Marais. 39 Rue de Bretagne

Paris: Water melon and a mosquito bite on the park bench in Square Trousseau.

After having looked at my holidays photos from the past eleven weeks, I realized that my vacation was just a big feast. My summer has been a dream, almost too good to be true so, of course, it just had to end badly. I traveled to Mallorca, Barcelona, Tromøya, Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Monte Carlo, Grasse, Cannes, and Paris in this exact order. I’ve been drafting a recapulation of my blissful weeks of idleness and hedonism for my blog but quickly found out that I have yet to overcome the uncomfortableness of being overly open online. But one important thing I’ve learned in the last couple of weeks while being on the road, is to go with the flow without any expectations whatsoever (Barcelona, Sonar festival, Oslo in the end of June – amazing) and you’ll never be disappointed. In addition I’ve also learned that nothing can replace the “first time” – for anything, come to think of it – so any attempt at recreating the “first time” experience is just a waste of time and upsetting (Hove festival, Oslo in the beginning of August).

  1. Looks delicious and lovely! And I’m always so excited to see another post of yours pop up in my reader, welcome home! By the way, my husband had a little apartment in Born in Barcelona when he was doing his masters there and I absolutely loved it! So fun that you had such adventures.

  2. What a summer , I am deeply envious (I feel travel envy far, far more than I ever feel clothing envy haha). Your pictures are lovely and reminded me that food is such a big part of travel and I should do a better job of documenting them (I’m always halfway through before I realise I should taken a picture).

Sorry that your holiday didn’t seem to have ended well but then you seem have taken that in your stride!

  3. It’s unfortunate that the vacation ended on a sour note, but at least you got to savor all the glorious food — Mallorca & Barcelona are two places I’m definitely psyched about visiting next year (fingers crossed).

    • Let me know if you’re visiting Barcelona in June next year. Hopefully I’m going too if I don’t have exams. I loved Sonar so much that I need to go back, haha!

  4. oh, what a lovely vacation! I am so jealous of your vacation especially Barcelona. that’s been near my top places to travel to and seeing all that Spanish food made me want it a little bit more. sounds like you had a great time.

  5. Amazing photos and such deeeeelicious food, too. :) I’m curious about your travels, in a technical way though I’m sure this sort of ruins the magic of traveling. Did you travel alone or with friends or have friends in these different countries? I always get this sense that traveling in Europe is easier but I don’t know if I am dreaming that up because I’m in the U.S. In the U.S. it just doesn’t seem as common for people to travel very far or to many places – maybe roadtrip to 1-2 states but that’s about it. I’d love to hear your thoughts on travel. :D

    • Oh why thank you :) I traveled alone to Mallorca and kind of alone to Barcelona as well but shared an apartment with two friends from Toulouse and their friends there. But I met some acquaintances, both on the plane and in Barcelona, who I ended up hanging out with in Barca and at the festival. I traveled with different friends to Copenhagen and Berlin and met a bunch of other friends in Berlin too who crashed at our place. But to Nice I traveled alone from Berlin and met my parents and sister there. I traveled with my sisters and my mom to Paris and stayed at my family’s place. That said, I didn’t meet my friends who live in the aforementioned cities as they were all on holidays too. Traveling in Europe is pretty easy and cheap as well, like Oslo-Paris is only two hours. You could get fares from Oslo to London for just $10 roundtrip if you’re lucky.

      • Ah! I never replied! You make traveling alone sound like something very comfortable. :) You’re inspiring me to feel the same with regards to travel. But I’m always more about travel during the winter holidays as opposed to the summer. Thank you for sharing a few insights about the technicalities.

  6. hola, beautiful snapshots, what a lovely feel for your trip. Do you mind my asking what if you used a camera or phone to take the shots? Trying to de-clutter a bit and considering a big purchase.
    Thanks!-C

  7. I stumbled here by a very happy accident and I’m here to stay! let me just say that I sincerely admire your style. As for the holidays, they look dreamy. Thank you for mouth watering pics – as I have a strong sentiment for Berlin (where I met my “first, big love”) and visit often, I’m always at the lookout for new eating places so both The Bird and Cocolo go on the “next-time visit” list. Also, I love travelling solo – in my opinion, you get to meet more cool people than when travelling with a group. Thanks again for a wonderful job with the blog and I’ll stick around :-)

    • Yep! Only iPhone! Thank you. Most of the photos are edited on my phone with instagram or something but some pictures aren’t edited.. for instance the photo from “Monastère de Cimiez”. Amazing, right? The quality is stunning!

      • The quality is so good! I never would have guessed they were all iPhone photos. My favourite is the first photo, it has such a dreamy quality!
