On eyewear

(photo: private)

As some of you might have gleaned from reading my recent posts, I have at long last invested in a new pair of glasses. Here they are as promised!

Aren’t these spectacles just glorious? It’s in moments like this that I’m embracing the fact that I’m as blind as a bat without my glasses. They are rimmed in gold and designed by Balenciaga, and more often than not an accessory in itself. Decidedly offbeat, yet timeless and reminiscent of a monocle. It’s no doubt that they add an instant quirk to all outfits, even just enough to repel the opposite sex from hitting on me. Indeed a very bold choice for someone who has been hiding behind a black pair of horn-rimmed glasses since 2007. Yes, it was high time for a change.

John Lennon, Harry Potter, Sigmund Freud, Mahatma Gandhi, or whatever – I’ve never felt more like myself than when I’m decked out in these glasses, haha!

  1. They’re great! They almost make want to wear glasses again! But I just hate how glasses look on me, that’s why I haven’t worn them in almost three years I think! I look like a super nerd when wearing them, luckily I can still see fine without them. 8-)

      • I’m the same way. I’ve been wearing glasses since I was little and I don’t feel like myself without them. I’m currently (or, should I say still) looking for new ones myself but not finding anything that works with my face atm. Oh well, when you find that perfect pair (like you have) it’s worth the search! Congrats on the new glasses (:

  2. Aww I love them! I don’t wear glasses but I wish I did, they are the perfect accessory, not too girly and never over the top : ) Oh og gratulerer med den nye bloggen, super fin layout!

  3. I’m having trouble viewing the blog too. If I try to view it in firefox it goes straight to a feed page, but won’t let me open the posts. Then, if I try to look at it in IE it’s all messed up, so I have cut and paste the comment section link into firefox to view it properly. :/

  4. This pair is definitely very beautiful. It seems sturdy and strong yet somehow still so delicate and intricate. Reminds me of the kind Le Corbusier wears! Love the new blog btw, still haven’t given you the well wishes on the site yet :)

    • I love your description of my glasses. I feel like they are so many “things”, ranging from the dorkiest design to the most beautiful and classic to the quirkiest, coolest vibes. Sometimes it feels like I can switch between many personalities when wearing them. And thank you very much!

  6. Love the new blog!! Unfortunately, having tech problems just like PretaPorterP. Using GoogleReader to follow you, but instead of your posts I only seem to get the comments and no photos. :(

  7. Gorgeous glasses. Jealous, because I’d love to be able to wear this iconic/offbeat round style. I recently replaced old glasses, and also love the difference, the defining accessory that goes on every day. But if I could wear yours, I definitely would.

Could you tell me what I’m doing wrong subscribing to your new blog site? When I subscribed, nothing was in English, so I unsubscribed. I must be missing something, but I don’t know what!

Thanks. And good luck at your new site.

  8. Just stopping by to say, that I’ll be following you on here but I have to say, I liked the old layout better.
This one seems a little untidy because of the weird font.
Looking forward to read new stuff of you.
Your blog is still one of my all-time favourites.

    • Thank you for following! It is very sweet of you :-) I know, the typography feels a tadunfamiliar and I already miss my Arial-font, haha, but we’ll get used to it eventually!

    • Oh, I don’t think I’d ever post a picture of me wearing them. Haha! And I think you can subscribe to grayzine.no/deadfleurette now as the bumps have been taken care of.

  9. These spectacles are a divine version of a HarryPotter-esque pair I had in the 1st grade. Mind you, this is not a diss. I’m entranced by them and wishing I had the guts to don them instead of comfy contacts.

And I almost had a heart attack when I read you were done with the other blog! I thought you meant, done with blogging, period! This new featured host is exciting, clean, and perfect.

Ellers vil eg dessverre ikkje følge lenger :-/

  11. Hey,

Just wanted to let you know that Jostein’s posts show up under your blog for bloglovin. Doesn’t bother me (and I’m assuming others) but thought that you would probably like to fix that.

  12. Congrats on the new site! I think I’ve subscribed, we’ll see in the next few days if it works or not. And I know you don’t generally post many full photos of yourself, but you know we’d all love to see those glasses on! I can’t even begin to imagine myself in a pair of round spectacles like that, I’m so curious to see them on you! Either way, enjoy them!

    • Yay! Thank you very much! We’ll see how the RSS feed works out when I post something new. I have so many ideas but I’m completely unable to jot down anything due to a sudden writer’s block, lol.
Maybe, if I’m fearless enough, I’ll find a way to link a photo of me wearing those glasses! Haha.

  13. Må si jeg liker den nye bloggen din! har lest deg siden 2008, (stalker, lol) men jeg liker den nye :) et pluss er at det også er samlet andre (gamle) favoritter her også.
    Stilige briller forresten!

  14. Mademoiselle Florette,

Something has been in my mind a lot lately. I am trying to buy less but better quality clothes. Which means in everyone’s mind (or almost) better quality = more expensive.
So, are those really expensive things you buy better quality?

I bought, a beautiful coat, that was quite expensive for me, that is already not looking as good anymore. And on the label it’s written “made in china”. Ok, “Made in China” doesn’t really mean bad quality, but it means I am paying 5 times more than what I should.
I am sick and tired of being fooled around either by the quality, either by the price…
Besoin de ton opinion sur le sujet.
    Des bisous.

    Anaelle.

    • Well, I think one of the reasons why my expensive clothes last longer than my COS or Zara shirts is because I treat them more carefully than the clothes from chain stores. But recently, I started treating everything equally regardless of the price tag and label, which seems to work wonders. My favorite pair of trousers are from Zara, and I wash them as if they were a pair of $600 trousers, and they have proven to stand the test of time considering I’ve been wearing said trousers almost every day for more than 7-8 months now.

  15. I laughed when I read about repelling the opposite sex. What am I to do if I should spot you on my occasional visits to Oslo?! :) I am actually curious, though – would you prefer your readers to not talk to you if you’re recognized?

The glasses are indeed many things, but I don’t think it has been said enough how cool they are. I’d like to see how they go with your face, but I know you want to stay anonymous. Oh well. :)

    • Haha, well, I actually prefer that readers talk to me. I don’t mind at all and I think it’s just nice, and it makes me feel less anxious esp if I suspect that someone recognizes me – you know, people stare and smile, and I don’t know whether it’s because they are just nice or because they are readers who’ve recognized me, lol. That said, I prefer that readers don’t approach me on my bad days, otherwise they would be repelled to the hilt.

And thanks! Well… sounds like you’re Norwegian, and if you normally visit Oslo blogs and websites, you’ll probably stumble across photos of someone wearing my glasses. Haha!

      • Haha, good to know.

Yes, I’m Norwegian – I figured I’d write in English for the sake of the foreign readers. However, I don’t normally visit Oslo blogs and websites. Your blog is the only one made by a Norwegian (although I guess that isn’t descriptive enough) I’m following. Maybe you’ve given me an excuse to look around at some of the other Oslo blogs/websites… Do you have any recommendations? Preferably centered around style. :)
