Barbour ‘Beaufort’ jacket, A.P.C. sweater, Current/Elliott jeans, Alexander Wang loafers, Balenciaga City bag, Omega wrist watch, Byredo perfume, Malin + Goetz candle
Horrible weather in Oslo today, it was just about unbearable. Today, after having finished my English final exam, I celebrated with some ice cream. I tell you, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that eating creamy food in such w-i-n-d-y weather is certainly not the smartest move. Well, I must admit that ice cream isn’t exactly my preferred hair accessory. Note to self: Only eat ice cream when the weather permits. Oh my, I can’t believe I’m actually talking about weather…
And apropos of weather, I think I have to revise my list of potential spring purchases because the climate of late has proven to be my nemesis. I could really use a proper transitional jacket right now. I have also figured out that a Barbour jacket would make the perfect accompaniment to festivals, especially if it rains. Predictably, Norwegian summer nights will be rather chilly this year, so a transitional jacket has unquestionably risen to the top of my list. Furthermore, the large pockets are pretty convenient, as I’m not keen on carrying around a bag at concerts. It’s perfectly roomy, enough to fit all my day and night essentials. So, this is how I would wear the Barbour “beaufort” jacket. I wonder if the jacket’s color goes well with chambray shirts?
By the way, if anyone of you has seen these Current/Elliott jeans in size 24 anywhere, please please please let me know. I have realized that these jeans are, in my inference, the closest to perfection that I have ever found. It’s such an elusive style and shade, which I really regret not purchasing. If I’m not completely off-base here, this particular style/shade is no longer in production, right?
Ooh that outfit is perfect!! :Dhttp://www.closet-fashionista.com/
I'm thinking of getting a Barbour jacket too. It seems to be a much chicer alternative to a jacket from The North Face with the same level of water protection. I've been one to drink cold frappachinos in the rain. Not smart either
Olive green compliments chambray nicely.http://www.shopgoldyn.com/product.details.cfm?CatID=5&PID=2695&SKU=10144&LinkID=1
Those Current/Elliotts have a really nice fit. I have been trying to track down a Barbour jacket online, they are so hard to come by in the size 30. Is there a place in Oslo that sells them for you to try them on?
I want a Barbour jacket SO BADLY. This outfit is perfection.
I think olive is pretty much a neutral when it's part of functional wear.I think you'll appreciate the pockets on the jacket, especially as the Beaufort has a game pocket in the back, a large zippered hidden pouch originally for stowing game birds.
I am really getting used to the idea of loafers. The Alexander Wang ones look like a flattering shape. Gypsy Water is a fantastic fragrance for Spring/Summer. We stock Byredo at my work so I am familiar with all of the scents. :)
This kind of looks like what you are looking for – http://www.shopbop.com/roller-jean-current-elliott/vp/v=1/845524441872637.htm?folderID=2534374302104951&fm=browse-brand-shopbysize-viewall&colorId=33196Shopbop has lots of current/elliott, and they ship worldwide.I'm obsessed with weather when I get dressed, but then I've been known to insist on frozen desserts outdoors on freezing days, and then regretting after – Lin
Those Barbour jackets do seem like the perfect transitional season jacket. I like that it's water repellent without looking like a raincoat. Are those Current/Elliott jeans the "roller" style? If so, I think I have these, and they do fit so well. However, just so you know, they run really big. I went down 3 sizes in them and they're still pretty slouchy. Even C/E's skinny jeans seem to run about 1 size too big.
I am seriously in love with that A.P.C. sweater! *swoon*
I have the Barbour Classic Bedale which is very similar to the Beaufort but perhaps a tiny bit more feminine, as the hand-warmer pockets slant in on a slight diagonal rather than being entirely vertical. A small difference but I like it. I wear mine with a chambray shirt fairly regularly. My uniform basics are black skinny jeans/shirt/chambray/Barbour. I am not nearly as careful with my clothes as you are- this jacket is perfect for the abuse from festivals!
I've just read your blog from beginning to end and I think it is the final nail in my shopaholic coffin. It's not of course the first I've heard of the French 5 piece wardrobe, but reading the basis of your wardrobe process rang true with me. I operate on a list/deliberate process as well, however I'm often side-tracked by second best solutions to my list. Thank you for the inspiration! I'll see how I go with the new outlook – and try not to rush it!
I think one of my readers recommended the Barbour brand to me, and she basically lives off the land; I'm taking that to be a good indication that the brand is pretty durable–which is a must when it comes to jackets! Unfortunately, I've decided not to pack any jackets for my trip to Wuhan, and the recent rains have made me regret that decision since the temperature plummeted from 90+F to around 60F with a bit of wind. On the bright side, the weather's bouncing back tomorrow so maybe I won't need to invest in a coat after all. I like the Barbour coats a lot, and I'd probably consider buying one if I ever moved to, say, Seattle or NYC!
Olive jacket + chambray shirt seems like a perfect colour match to me…
I have that same Barbour jacket in navy and I have never had anything more waterproof in my life! Unfortunately mine was a gift at a time in my life when I wore everything 3 sizes too big, so it's hard for me to get much use out of it today, but if you buy the right size you'll love it for years and years. It does smell a bit of wax though, but if you can get used to that you'll love it. And yes, I think the olive will look great with chambray. And you don't say which style of current/elliott jeans those are, but I agree with jennifer above, they look like the "roller" jeans. You can find them and a tons of other models at shopbop, and I know they have free international shipping too:http://www.shopbop.com/current-elliott/br/v=1/2534374302104951.htmhttp://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/
Sweet picks that'll last a life time. I am so grateful that you share your thinking process behind building your wardrobe.
That is a great look! Love it! Would weare that today :) XO Raspberry & Rougehttp://raspberry-rouge.com
I like Barbours, but they lately became very fashionable over here, and for a while the trendiest girls were wandering round in Babours and Hunter wellies every day with flat caps added for the men. We looked like a nation of farmers! I think the Beaufort is my favourite, is that the model you'd go for? I would certainly wear this today.
If you wear APC jeans for about 2 years they end up looking like this ;)I find it hard to do the Barbour thing because I'm English – too many associations – though they look great and are very practical!I just discovered Byredo perfumes – they're fab – though they don't seem to have much staying power on my skin, especially for what starts out as such an intense scent. I'm currently addicted to their Oud Immortel.
Loving the outfit! It wouldn;t look amiss here in blustery Manchester, weather yesterday was grimsville and my poor mac was super soaker'd!
The weather will always be a topic as long as you live in Norway, haha!A transitional jacket have been on my list for a time aswell. I had a lovely jacket from Norheim, but of course, it didn't last and they went out of production. So, as the perfectionist that I am, I still haven't found one :/
i think Barbour must be ridiculously grateful to Alexa Chung and the rest of the London It-girls pack for making the foxhunting jacket so chic and coveted! hehe. i love my bedale and i love that it's still a heritage brand that means something.
You should buy the Barbour Jakcet. I purhased one a month ago, and I've been wearing it at every given occation since. I think Ill buy one of those inside wests, so I can use it more then just a ransitional jacket, because it is a really useful jacket.
Gorgeous post! I love those jeans! btw just one small mistake *scientist rather than science :)Lovely post and beautifully written as always xx
Love this outfit! It's perfect for "unstable" weather! Actually where I live it's unbearably hot today, but reports say tomorrow it'll be raining(!?), so that jacket is just perfect!!!
Those jeans look identical to my favorite pair, a Levi's boyfriend skinny (model name, no number) in the exact same wash! I found them on sale for around $40 in the US previous summer and they are as soft as sweat pants but very durable (like all my other Levi's). So maybe that is an option if you can't find the CE's? They do run big though, I had to take 2 sizes smaller but it still has the perfect slouchy fit.
Thanks for the comments!- L.L.: I agree. Jackets from Barbour kind of resemble the jackets from APC. They are so classic, they will never go out of style.- Pret a Porter P: I don't think it's the same wash! :-( (You know how particular I am as to colors, haha).- Alex: There are only a couple of stores that sell Barbour in Oslo, and they only have men's sizes, it seems… :-( I prefer to try things on before purchasing things. Maybe I have to ask readers for measurements, haha. – Quinn: Woah, thanks for telling me. That's cool! Do you know if the Bedale/Beadnell jacket has a game pocket as well?- R A: Blanche is my favorite, I think it's perfect for spring/summer!- Lin: Unfortunately, that is not the pair I want. The wash is slightly different :-(- jennifer: Agreed! I don't own a raincoat and I will never buy one either.. so a waxed jacket is just perfect! As for the jeans, it's indeed the roller style. I tried them in size 25 a long time ago and figured out that 24 would fit me perfectly (23 is the smallest size but I'm gaining weight so the jeans may not fit in a year or so). But I actually prefer them slouchy as a skinny boyfriend fit.- Anonymous: I'm not sure if I'm going for the Beaufort or Bedale/Beadnell. I like them both and I have to study the differences in order to make up mind. And haha, I'm not careful with my clothes at all. I abuse them all the time, I treat my designer bags as though they're $10 bags. I've stopped babying my clothes because they are, after all, just clothes, haha! – Cristina: Thank you, I'm glad you found some inspiration here! And good luck :-D- 0000: Ah, sounds like the horrible weather is a problem in many countries these days! How do you manage to leave comments on blogspot-blogs? Do you use a hide IP app?- Nomadic D.: Does the smell disappear after a while? I'm a bit sensitive to smells. Shopbop doesn't have the particular wash that I want :-(- Kate: Oh, really? I rarely see anyone wearing Barbour here. Although Barbour is old, it's kind of "new" to me. Right now, I waver between the Beaufort and Bedale/Beadnell. – badaude: Haha! APC used to have the wash that I like but suddenly my preferred wash went out of production. Or.. maybe APC hides this particular wash in the basement. I agree with you as to the Byredo perfumes. The scent disappears after 2 hours, which I find rather annoying. My favorites are Gypsy Water and Blanche. The latter is perfect for summer!- miss sophie: haha! When I googled Barbour the very first time, I only saw photos of Alexa Chung and the like. I must admit they do look good in Barbour jackets! – Daniella: Oops typo! Haha! Thanks for telling me, I didn't notice it!- Anonymous: Ooh, The Levi's boyfriend skinny is PERFECT. I actually bought a pair once, but I didn't like the wash so I returned it. I even made a post here: http://www.deadfleurette.com/2010/10/how-id-wear-my-boyfriend-jeans.html Here's hoping that Levi's will sell the same model next season in a darker wash!
I think the wash you are looking for is called "pacific". You can find them in this wash here: http://www.mrsh.se/products/Current_Elliott/Roller_Pacific/or here: http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=CURR-WJ129&c=Current%2FElliott&referrerURL=%2Fbrandpages%2FCurrentElliott.jsp&
such a lovely outfit, I would totally wear this. I really love and appreciate heritage brands, one day I'd like to look into a Barbour as well. I currently use an APC jacket that has a similar look but is not nearly so functional. And the rollers are great! I wish you had bought them when Piperlime had them on sale :(
I use a VPN, which somehow reroutes me so it appears I am using a US IP address. I still cannot access facebook or twitter, though; but it's enough to get me access to US Google (which I desperately need) and Hulu (to watch the Colbert Report haha)–as well as blogspot to visit all my favorite blogs!
I'm in the same situation as you! I'm looking for a short trench, for those not-to-cold but not-too-warm days, of which there are a ton of where I live. xoxo Cat.
Hi There! You've recently posted the picture of a girl with a red clutch on your tumblr and you added the caption : "new girl crush"Can you please tell me who is she?Thank you in advance.Your blog keeps really inspiring. Thanks for that!Ava
Great outfit, I love that sweater! Have you searched ebay for the Roller jeans? I found mine there, in this wash, for $52! They are so soft and comfy, but they strech out a lot, mine almost fall off by the end of the day! /Garderoben (there must be something wrong with Blogger, I can't log in and comment)
I recently bought the Barbour Bedale in size 32. I am 1,75 and a size xs/36, and it fits me really nicely. I'm sure i could have had it in a 30 if I hadnt been so tall, as it isn't tight over the chest. I tried the Beadnell, which is the womens version and thus much more fitted – I really didn't like that at all. I felt it took all the coolness out of the jacket. I think you will find that the Beaufort is too long for you as you're not so tall. If I were you I would go for the Bedale in size 30, or maybe you can even fit a large childrens size? I wouldn't risk buying a childrens size without trying it on first though. I'd advice you to buy it online from the english shop, as they stock all sizes. I would have had to pay almost twice the price if I had bought it from a store here in copenhagen – also they don't stock the smallest sizes. hope this is any help. .
- Anonymous: Thank you!- S: You should post it on your blog! Yes, I really regret that I didn't purchase them when you told me about the discount.. oh well, sometimes it takes months before I realize I want a certain item.- 0000: Hurray! That means I'll see you on various blogs this summer!- Cat: You should search for a short trench from Isabel Marant on ebay. She makes the best trenchcoats!- Ava: Unfortunately, I don't know who she is :-( – Garderoben: Thanks for the tip, I'm going to hunt for them on ebay from now on as I'm a bit reluctant to pay $200 for a pair of jeans. Which size did you take?- Emilie: Thanks for the comment. I don't want the jacket to be too fitted, as you said, a fitted Bedale jacket takes all the coolness out of the jacket. As for the Beaufort, I would probably buy it in children's size. Children's size will most likely fit me perfectly because of my figure. Did you try on the Bedale in size 30?
Suggestion: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CURRENT-ELLIOTT-BOYFRIEND-JEAN-25-26-27-29-NEW-INDIGO-/270683917585?pt=US_CSA_WC_Jeans&var=&hash=item84b79ddd5d:)
The smell fades, definitely, but I've had mine for maybe 15 years and it still smells noticeably of wax. That said, it is true that I haven't worn it very much, maybe a few winters and then it's mostly just been sitting in my closet, so maybe if you use it more it will actually disappear? But then too, they suggest you rewax it every so often.. I don't know. You should definitely check it out in person and see how you feel about it. Maybe they've improved the scent since I got mine.http://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/
I tried the 30, and that was too short in the sleeves for me, but then i'm a lot taller than you. My 32 fits me absolutely perfectly. I never actually tried the beaufort, but my impression is that the main difference is that it's longer. I think fits perfectly, hits at the hip. If it had been longer it would be more like a coat i think. about the wax smell, mine doesnt bother me at all. yes it smells, but its not very strong (only when its wet), so..again, i think a bedale in 30 would be perfect. or a childrens ;)
Love this look!
i hope you're able to find those C/E roller jeans…i had my eye on them for a while but never got them. i'm sure you know this: the sizing of current/elliot can be tricky- in a word: big! i've been sticking to their legging jeans after selling my boyfriend pairs, as they were so unflatteringly huge! but the denim quality is fantastic, so soft.
I got them in sz 25, and they're perfect when they've just been washed. Then they stretch out a lot, I think I could wear a sz 24 too (and that NEVER happens, haha). I'm usually a sz 26 or 27 in skinny J Brand jeans.
Hé hé no problem Fleurette! It seems to me that she really looks like Yael Naïm.
If all the items on your wishlist aren't too urgent, this might be a good idea: when you're in Milano in July, it will be discount period (saldi).. and they are overall huge (like example Prada first week is 30 – 40% but after 10 days it goes to 50%). There is a Barbour AND a Ferragamo shop in Milano :) Maybe just give Barbour a call if they have your jacket and i can pick it up for you the first day of the sales.
Love your blog fleurette, i have the Beaufort Barbour jacket in size 36, (i wear a french size 36/38) It wanted an oversized look for comfort first and because i wanted a not to classic look, go for it it is the perfect rain jacket…
