Le sport princier de Ferragamo

(via stylediary.ro)

I am entirely head-over-heels for Emmanuelle Alt’s casual yet attractively chic take on the “Ferragamo lady’s” aesthetic. It does look like an easy look to approximate, but truly requires a well trained eye for detail in order to flawlessly merge together classic elegance and le sport. The wash of the jeans is elusively impeccable and crisp – why on earth are jeans like these extremely difficult to find? Annoyingly, the rare pairs I somehow manage to unearth are always repellently embellished or just the wrong size or cut. Regardless, you can’t possibly disagree that these jeans are very pretty to look at, even though they are ‘just a simple pair of jeans’. Truth be told, I have a thing for rolled-up jeans in the right wash and cut like these ones. Informal and chic! My penchant for the classic Ferragamo Vara bow has yet to cease increasing in intensity. I’m just waiting for the right hardware and leather. Nice bag as well.. all in all it’s a desirable look. Good thing I rediscovered this picture today, as I’ve been feeling slightly uninspired as of late.

  1. I so agree with you. Finding the right pair of jeans in the right wash and cut is unnecessarily difficult, even for a skinny guy like myself. That's one of the reasons why I hate wearing jeans, because I can never find a pair that looks tailor made to my lower half. The Cheap Mondays I have look terrible after it's washed and I've never been fond of their denim either. I want a simple crisp pair with minimal wash in regular denim blue. Simple. No fuss. But I still have yet to find it.

  2. Considering all the different companies specializing in jeans, it still seems difficult to find a pair that works. The photo is incredibly inspiring and makes me want the Veras more too. I wonder if you find the Hermes scarves/twilliess a little aging? I can't see someone in their 20s managing to wear one without appearing older

  3. Ferragamo apparently did not make below a size 6 because I cant find those shoes in 5's anywhere! The search goes on…<3 Sarahtheantiquepearl.blogspot.com

  4. Lovely picture! Just wondering if you are looking for leather/patent leather/suede ones. I suppose you will be looking for one with a gold bow to match your necklace ;)x

  5. Like! Definitely difficult to find the right jeans, but when you do, you will have them forever :) XO Raspberry & Rougehttp://raspberry-rouge.com

  6. i agree so much with what you wrote! i think the cut is of primary importance and every little human body difference change how it fits!! for me diesel jeans work well, but i know many say that the quality is not so good! also levi's are good, but i have only two pairs so maybe i can't judge so much!?!?? i also agree with the fact that sometimes the wash is just terrible,or there are studs or something that ruins the whole look of the jeans!! i have a picture with my ideal pair of jeans,as soon as i find it i'll send you, so maybe can be inspiring for you too ;) by the way i like how the sweatshirt keep the outfit sporty in a subtly way!!

  7. - Ives He: I absolutely agree with you regarding the Cheap Monday jeans. The wash ends up looking dull and terrible after washing the jeans, not to mention the fit… yet I'm loyal to this brand because the jeans are so cheap. Regular denim blue seems to be the hardest wash to find, unfortunately. Good luck with searching for the right pair! Do let me know when you succeed!- L.L.: Word! To be honest, I used to dress like this when I was 14. I used to wear an inherited Hermes scarf comme ça (I was into preppy style at that time), but I don't think I would wear one today. Maybe in 10 years. I do find it a bit aging. Maybe I should unearth my scarf and see whether it caters to my style or not. – Sarah Dee: Oh my, that's too bad if they do not make smalles sizes!! I think size 6 is slightly too big for me (or maybe I tried on 6.5…?)- K: I'm looking for the leather ones with gold bow. Apparently, this version in black is very very very hard to find. I've called every Ferragamo store in Paris and Barcelona and none of them carry the Vara pumps in black leather with gold bow. I hope I'll find them in Milan or Madrid next season. – Anonymous: Me too!! My blog has sort of become a dreck filled with wordy wardrobe planning posts. I miss the sporadic inspiration featuring Geraldine Saglio or Valentine Fillol-Cordier. I guess that such photos makes me kind of feel pressured to give genuine reasons and analyze my fondness for said women to death, which keeps me from posting inspiring photos. Lol. (Referring to a LOL thread called thoughts on fashion bloggers on the fashion spot where the "understated" bloggers (lol) are being criticized and scrutinized for their way of posting).- Alexandra: A flash of ankle is so sexy! My absolute trademark, haha.- heart in a cage: Ahaha, agreed. Too preppy for my taste as well.- Paola Dal Lago: Please, send me a picture of your ideal pair of jeans! :-D

  8. Lovely post and what a beautiful bag! Sigh…Have you checked Earnest Sewn jeans? The Harlan style is the only style I ever wear and their washes are exquisite. Plus, no embellishments or logos which I detest as well.PS Please make a classic 10 post like Garderoben!!!

  9. Fluerette, I have been a devotee of your blog for some time now, but this is my first comment. I LOVE this image. My first discovery that designer shoes (long considered out of my budget) could be a sound investment was through a pair of Ferragamo flats – I'm wearing them as I type – and the line remains a favorite. I still don't have a pair of Varas (I'm also waiting for the perfect pair), but…someday. Thanks for so much inspiration and keep the great posts coming.

  10. This is such a cool take on the "Ferragamo lady's" aesthetic. I'm a huge fan of the Ferragamo bow styles. I've been wearing my Varas for 6-7 years and they are still in excellent shape. I also have a pair of patent Varina flats that are also in regular rotation. If they ship internationally, Bloomingdales has the black leather Varas in stock. As for those jeans, I have a pair of Current/Elliott crop skinnys that are in a similar shade. Acne also makes some similar washes, but their jeans are so expensive.

  11. Love the shoes! I remember splurging one of my first paychecks on a pair many many years go (not flats like yours but with a bit of heels) and they were simply divine. I've sorta forgot how wonderful they are so thanks for rekindling my interest! Hope you find your perfect pair very soon. :)

  12. I think part of the reason that the perfect wash is so hard to find on jeans is that it's typically the result of years of love and breaking-in rather than distressing at a factory. It's just about impossible to mass produce. Sarah M

  13. Casual chic! My favourite! Shirt/Top + jeans + flats + cardigan + bag + scarf = My Most Usually Daily Style Why? Because it's so easy! I'm trying to get away from it a little, because it feels like "uniform" to me now…

  14. I think I like the bottom half of this outfit more than the top half, but it is overall cute. I agree with Garderoben, you should check out the J Brand Krys! Which again, Piperlime had on super sale but are now all gone … perhaps ebay!

  15. unfortunately i cannot formspring you anymore, therefore i'm asking here:how would you combine a light grey loose sweater? i feel like i'm looking too sporty or sleazy…

  16. - Anonymous: Unfortunately, I don't have access to many of the great American and Australian jeans brands so I haven't checked Earnest Sewn. I've already made a classic 10 post HERE :-) Maybe I should include my own photos, haha!- Rebekah: Thank you kindly for the lovely words! I remember I read once that any cobbler in the world appreciate the quality of Ferragamo shoes. I can't wait till I find my preferred version of the Vara pumps!- jennifer: Oh, do you know if the Varas have a gold bow? Because, according to the SA at le bon marche, Ferragamo only do a silver-ish hardware for the leather Varas this season.- myblythe: I want the ones that you've got, the Vara pumps (not the flats in the picture, but they are lovely as well!). :-D- Sarah M: You're so right, jeans only get better with age, but I'm not patient enough to wear a pair to death until it achieves the right shade. – Ilonka: jeannedamas.blogspot.com, I've also linked her on my blogroll ;)- BeLighter: Sometimes it's good to break out of a formulaic uniform and reunite with it after a little while.- Garderoben: I know, I've seen those jeans on you and my mommy style. I have yet to try it on, it's wonderful!- S: Haha, I too like the bottom half more than the top half. I was in fact more intrigued by the jeans than the top half. How is the sizing of J Brand jeans? Should I size up or down?- laure emily: :-)- Anonymous: Oh, how come you cannot formspring me anymore? That's very odd. I would wear it with a leather/tailored mini skirt, or with a pair of tapered trousers and a nice jacket. I love grey pullovers!

  17. Hello :)I just discovered your blog! It's really amazing, i love it! I put it in my "<3" list on my blog :)Camille
