There is something very calming and serene about the quietness of these images, which evokes an incredible, but far-fetched feeling of utter day-to-day luxury. Today is my last day of vacation. I’ve been rolling in luxury for an entire week, and I suppose it will be good to get back to my productive mode.
Now, I’m going to help my mom preparing one of my favorite rice vermicelli meals, which is bún thịt nướng – a very healthy, light and delicious dish consisting of shredded, barbecued pork and cold rice vermicelli mixed with fresh herbs, pickled carrots and lots of vegetables. It’s often served with roasted peanuts sprinkled on top and of course spicy nước chấm (dipping sauce) to pour over the noodles. The sauce’s effect in enhancing the dish’s flavor cannot be overstated. Bún thịt nướng is undeniably the perfect Vietnamese summer meal. Having time to prepare and enjoy a lovely meal with my family is beyond luxurious!
The food pictures are especially evocative to me. I suppose it's because it infers that the subjects the images have the luxury of time to enjoy a well put together meal at home. Enjoy the last day of vacation! Oh, I love bún of any variety. It's my go-to meal in the summertime!
Love the last picture! Takk for svar!
I'm especially loving the nude palette of clothing and the set table below it. Beautiful shots. And your food sounds delicious too!http://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/
- jennifer: Yes, you're absolutely right! I find them tremendously evocative as well! I am actually not a big fan of bún, I prefer (banh pho) rice noodles over bún, but this dish is my favorite bún dish! The photo of the nude palette of clothing is really beautiful.. it makes me want to wear pink and light colors!
thanks for the inspiration! I love the photo of nude clothing.chicdisplay.blogspot.com
I'm loving this kind of posts, Fleurette. They make your blog even better. Don't get me wrong, your blog was already amazing, now your blog is perfect. ;) <3
Are you Vietnamese? Because I've been following your blog for quite some time now and I never knew! I'm Vietnamese and I absolutely love bun thit nuong. This post got me craving so I might ask my mom to pick up some more things at the grocery store so we can make it now. My favorite dish to eat with nuoc man is definitley banh xeo.
Do you always eat home cooked meals? :)I love the breakfast set-up it's so simple, but also comfortable and relaxing. I wish that my table looked like this. In reality I just eat oatmeal and fill it with dried fruits and nuts.I love this post- it's nice to see post that anyone can relate to. It will remind me to take the time to enjoy time itself. I also want the clothing pictured in silk neutrals.
These are very peaceful images indeed – a beautiful selection. The breakfast image speaks to me the most – you know you're having a luxurious, lazy time when you can have a leisurely breakfast! That's all I'm after at the weekends. x
ooh that watch with the blue hands is beautiful. you know the maker?probably tres cher, but a girl can dream
I like what you said about spending time with the family.it's so precious but often forgotten and taken for granted.I still have a week of luxurious time off but then going back in productive mode will be just perfect.Hope you enjoyed your meal.
mmmmm, your meal sounds delicious, I suddenly find myself extremely hungry. Is the watch navy or is it the lighting? I find myself very drawn to navy leather accessories lately, especially for the summer. A bit softer than black.
Lovely images – your break sounds heavenly. I really like the new direction of this blog – especially the focus on food. Delicious!
- chic display: :-)- Lana: You're far too kind! Thank you!- paperwhales: Haha, yes, I am Vietnamese! I don't think I've mentioned that I'm Vietnamese on my blog, but I've received quite an amount of formspring questions regarding my ethnicity, the languages I speak, Vietnamese culture, etc.. OMG, banh xeo <3 I always order that when I go out for dinner. – anonymous: Yes, I always eat home cooked meals. Vietnamese food is very very easy to prepare and many simple everyday dishes only take 5-15 minutes to prepare. It's an irony that I can't cook though.. and thank you for the nice comment :) – Olivia: Oh yes!! I just love the days when I have time to make a great breakfast and a smoothie in the morning.. that speaks to luxurious time!- zoe: I know, it's incredible! Too bad I don't know the label, but maybe it's a copy of Hemingway's watch?- angie: Enjoy your extra week of luxury!! My meal was absolutely perfect. I have to post a photo of my dish soon, haha.- S: I don't know but it looks navy. I'd love a navy watch.. navy is such a classic color, let alone it's rather youthful as well.- Ammu: Oh, thank you! Coming from one of my first followers (ahaha I sound like Jesus!!) it means a lot! If you're an avid traveler to Paris, you should look forward to my future restaurant posts! Haha!
Your description alone is enough to make anyone's mouth water for this unknown to me dish. If there exists a recipe on the interweb, perhaps with a chicken substitute that you approve of, could you point it out to me?ThanksTashrin
Oh I love that too! My parents came here in Belgium for the Easter week-end and I was able to savour these amazing pleasures: cook with my mom, help her to prepare something or clean up while we chat, smoke a cigarette with my dad outside… Now I can do it only every two or three months while only a couple of years ago I could do it every single day without even thinking about it. I miss them so much and I miss it so much.Your choice of images represents perfectly this calm, peaceful state of mind. The dish you cooked sounds delicious, I love eastern food, especially everything that involves noodles and vermicelli! :DI hope you had a great holiday, a kissAl-The Red Dot-
- Tashrin: Of course, you can just use the same recipe and use chicken instead of pork, I believe. The name would be "Bún Gà Nướng". You can also make it with shrimp :-) The key ingredient is lemongrass! – Al: Oh, it's so important to savour such times.. I still live with my parents but I should appreciate every minute of my situation as things might change soon. Hope you had a great holiday as well! And I'm going to e-mail you soon, regarding some illustrations.. i'm in love with yours!
That third picture down.. the fabric looks so tactile, I just want to roll in it haha x
Looks gorgeous and peaceful :)
I love your blog!
That sounds delicious. I need to Google a recipe. Really like the direction you're going in with the blog.
Herlige bilder.
oooh searching for a summery salad recipe and your post just inspired me! i love vietnamese food and i and my bf and some foodie friends all went to vietnam 3 yrs ago…partially out of our collective love for pho! enjoy your last day of vacation!
This is so lovely. Did you take these photos? I can't wait till summer holiday to be here.
Thank you for the kind comments! :-)- LuxeBytes: Coming from you, that means a lot to me. Thank you kindly!- Anonym: Tusen takk, du er altfor snill. Buon thit nuong is the perfect summer salad. Cabbage salad with chicken/shrimp/pork/etc is also a really great summery salad. (Or green papaya salad – Goi du du). Or Vietnamese summer rolls – goi cuon. Ooh, pho! Take me out for some pho when I travel to NYC (wishful thinking!). – Joy: Thanks! No, I didn't take these photos. Every image is linked to the source from where it was taken :-)
I really like the new turn of your blog. I love the old one, but also the additional themes. I am sure I still will find it very, very inspirational – as I already do.
WOW. I love these images, but I think your description for that meal is more enticing :) I just googled the recipe.thisiswhatidwear

Ingrid: Thank you kindly for the warmhearted words! I hope my current readers won't stop visiting my blog as it's no longer a niche blog but rather a mix of everything I find inspiring and beautiful as well as a style diary. PS: I love your blog!!!! Lots of mouth-watering pics there.thisiswhatidwear: Hihi, bon appetit!Néhémie: Thank you! You're always welcome here :-)Fashion Tidbits: Who doesn't?? Trenger late dager og sofa av og til, haha!lin: That's the purpose of sharing these images – make you feel a bit soothed. Ellers takk for at du spurte, utrolig hyggelig :-)0000: Does anyone deliver Vietnamese food where you live? Haha!
