The Epitome of Chic

(via philo-sofia)

Are you ready for my newest obsession? These oh-so comely flats from Chanel! When I saw these at Le Bon Marché in Paris, I swooned and couldn’t take my eyes off them at all. They are the epitome of chic, no doubt.

I love the way this chic woman wears the flats. Very subtle and coordinated with a hint of off-the-cuffness… and undeniably potential inspiration.

We’ll see how long this particular obsession lasts – I’m hoping it will be a while. If that’s the case, perhaps these ballerinas will become another style and wardrobe staple of mine. However, I’m in no rush to acquire them as they seem to be sold every season. Additionally, I want to be completely sure that they’re right for me. Most likely, I will wait a couple of years before settling.

Who knows if they’re merely a sudden and momentary obsession? Only time will tell!

  1. I was totally obsessed with some white quilted Chanel ballet flats about 5 yrs ago. I would visit them at Saks all the time. One day they were gone. I wish I would've saved up & just gotten them. Sigh. Maybe I will hunt them down today…

  2. I would prefer the black cap toe or bow but not both. But I am not the biggest fan of ballet flats anyway. That woman is very understated and elegant. Her face shape reminds me of Emmanuelle Alt, always a plus in my book. :)

  3. These have been my dream shoes for too long now, in this precise color combination. Always looking on eBay for them, but even then they always go for more than I can afford. Some day!

  4. - Alexandra: Mine as well en ce moment!- BloodyGuts: Oh no, that's a shame! I also love the quilted ones.- Pret a Porter P: I didn't notice her face, but you're right.. she looks like Emmanuelle!- Ringe, have banana!: You should get them in Europe, I think they are cheaper here? + you'd get vat refund.

  5. Chanel ballet flats are so chic. I think the capped-toe style is especially timeless. I wish they had a lower vamp though. The beige and black combination is so gorgeous, but I'm so clumsy that I'd probably step in a puddle or drop sharpie marker tip down on the beige part and ruin them forever. :)

  6. I think it's good you decided to wait a little before making the purchase, because to be honest, they're just another pair of flats, the only difference is the Chanel logo. But, of course, the ultimate decision is yours :)cheers,

  7. I love the two toned ones as well at the moment, I have them in all black and they are the most comfy and well made ballet flats, defiantly worth the expense!

  8. I think they are gorgeous but have been wondering if they are worth the price. Do they seem comfortable or are they flimsy like Repettos? I think French Sole has done a similar style as well, but I'm not sure how comfortable French Soles are either. It would be interesting to compare the two.

  9. They are very pretty, but they would become very dirty if they were mine! I would just wreck cream shoes so quickly. And I feel like they wouldn't fit my lifestyle. Although, I saw a woman in my local supermarket (I live in quite a poor area) in Ferragamo flats, so maybe I could make them fit.

  10. - VanessaMarie: I too want a pair from Ferragamo. The Vara pumps, which are similar to the Varina flats.. but they are currently not available with gold bows.. so I just have to wait or search for a pair on ebay (but they are usually patent leather.. I want the matte ones!). – jennifer: Oh yes, undoubtlessly timeless! But oh my, you're freaking me out. I never think of those kind of things.. I'd probably spill red wine on them. – MyFavouriteThings: Har du noen gang tenkt til å kjøpe dem?- Tamuna: Of course, I usually wait when it comes to more expensive statement things. I waited 4 years before I settled on buying the designer bag of my dreams. – Alex: Oh, I would looove to see a photo of you wearing them. I love your style!- S: According to Alex, they are the most comfy and well made ballet flats. – Kate: I too live in a quite poor area, and sometimes I wonder if it would look as though I'm wearing fakes.

  11. These are the flats of my dreams! I hope to purchase them this year. Probably not, since I have to replace quite a lot of old things too. :( Do you remember the exact price? Maybe I'll be able to set some money aside every month or so…

  12. thanks! they are at my parents house at the moment. I forgot to take them with me when I went back to the city I go to university in..but when they visit my mum will bring them with her I think, I may most an outfit pic on my tumblr with them then..

  13. Yes! Those go on my list every season but I have held off purchasing because they do make them every year, every season. And I don't think this year will be the year for me, because I think I would rather buy the new iPad! They cost about the same :-)I'm glad you like my lace top! It was the first thing I ever bought from lagarconne, the year they opened the site, so it's quite old. Still in great shape though!

  14. thank you! although I absolutely adore them I'm a bit hestitant about the price. I'm so afraid they'll run out quickly, as ballet flats usely do. I have planty of time to make up my mind so we'll see. I'm sure they'll be mine someday;)

  15. I have them, i splurged, and they are fantastic. The quality of the leather is so high, the combination of the beige and the black is perfect for wearing against bare legs (which I do all year round, i refuse to wear tights), and they are the epitome of chic. you should definitely get them!X

  16. I guess I'm not a fan. They seem a little too precious (the bow and the CCs) and I would be so worried, at that price, that they would scuff in 3.2 seconds and look shoddy. I like ballet flats, but they can be tricky, sometimes looking too girlish or too matronly. Plus, honestly, these just seem gimmicky/logoy…like you just bought them because of the logo.

  17. I love the idea that you could wait for years to get them!I'm looking for years to find the perfect ballet flats. No luck ,yet.I hope your infactuation will last!

  18. I love these, the colour combination is really chic and the bow adds something sweet! Plus the logo is on the black leather and unless staring up close you wouldn't really notice it, I like how subtle it is.

  19. Very nice indeed! I have a question for you, which might be funny to you, but:I just bought the Rouge Noir Nail Varnish from Chanel. I've been wanting it for a long time but thought the color looked too brown (in the bottle). But today the saleslady offered me to try it on, and I saw, that it was exactly what I wanted. My problem is now; how do you put it on so it doesn't make "blobs". I mean, if I only put one layer on, it is darker in some place and lighter in some. Do you have any fifs? Or do you perhaps use two layers?XO

  20. - Alex: Looking forward to seeing your post!!- koko: Oh, that explains why I didn't find your top on lagarconne yesterday, and I didn't find it on the designer's website either.- heart in a cage: From what Alex and Hannah-Rose said, I'm sure these are much better quality than other ballerinas.. you should google and see if there are any "quality reviews" of these flats. Otherwise you can buy knock-offs, for instance from French Sole?- hannah-rose: I too would refuse to wear tights. Besides, I love flashing a bit skin when wearing shoes. Anyhow, I rummaged your blog so as to find a photo of you wearing the flats, but I didn't find any. Perhaps I'm a bad stalker, so please post!!- TJP: I am usually not a fan of logos but I think the CC-logo on these is subtle. I know what you mean about them looking too girlish, but I mostly wear 'masculine' clothes, I never wear dresses or skirts, so I think these would soften the masculine look and add a feminine air to my style. – angie: Of course! I want to be 100% sure that these are perfect for me. I want my wardrobe to consist of only things I truly love. As for you search, have you considered Repetto or Salvatore Ferragamo? Even A.P.C. makes very beautiful ballerinas. – zoe: I agree with you! The colour combination is striking. I once tried on a pair of nude flats, but it looked like I wasn't wearing shoes at all.. that's why I like these, because of the black cap toe. Otherwise, I could never wear nude shoes.. haha.- Mina: I agree, it looks brown-ish in the bottle but once you put in on your nails, you'll see how red the color actually is. I know what you mean about the color being darker in some place etc. I always put on two layers, because the color looks darker then.

  21. you can get some really amazing vintage versions by ferragamo and chanel that are very similar. i love the elongating effect of the two-tone beige/black style, but i'd want to get a pair with a little bit of a heel and a stiffer leather to make it a bit more durable. ;)i am obsessing over the stylish woman's perfect cigarette leg black pants, however…

  22. I have been stalking these for years too, but could never justify the price, especially when I walk every where and take public transport – shoes don't last all that long! I've always wanted them in a navy with black toe-cap. Perhaps when I do well at work and get some kind of awesome bonus. I say keep stalking them; shoes don't last as long as things like bags so while I believe in buying good ones, I'll hesitate to buy very expensive ones; unless it's a splurge only to be worn on special occasions…

  23. I want Chanel slingbacks in the same color combination. It's eternally chic. If you've never tried Repetto ballerines, they are an absolute dream. The leather of the sole is indeed thin, but that's because the body of the shoe (the upper) is sewn to the sole with right sides together, then the shoe is turned right side out. It actually makes for an extremely durable shoe. I highly recommend wearing new Repettos for a week to scuff up soles, then taking them to a good cobbler and having them resoled with leather. Basically, he adds another layer of leather to the sole, which makes it thicker. If you take care of your shoes, you can resole them many, many times this way. I've done this with all of my Repettos and a pair of Blahniks.

  24. i highly recommend that you buy these! i bought a pair on consignment a few years back which was the perfect test run. im buying a new pair because a)the edges hit your feet at the perfect places b)the nude colour elongates the leg and c) they are insanely comfortable. and of course they are so chic, as you say.maybe that will help :)

  25. I also highly recommend these. I only have 13 pairs of shoes and two of them are Chanel flats you speak of. I have the tan/black and the black/black. They are the only flats you will ever need, I promise! They are incredibly comfortable even fresh out of the box.

  26. These are so very chic! I am looking to purchase them in black. They have been on my list for some time and you have just reminded me of how good they can look.

  27. I have French Sole London flats in quilted beige leather with a black patent toecap and they are terrific. To be honest, short of the Chanel jackets, I feel like a lot of Chanel is overpriced and logo-obsessed. The design of these flats is great, but I have bought ballerinas from Bloch, French Sole London and Chloe and they are all terrific, hard-wearing and cost less.

  28. I am not a flats girl but I understand you. I am currently thinking of getting the Lanvin flats, I tried them on and in fact they do flatter for some strange reason even though I am petite and some heel does wonders to my silhouhette. I am agree with some of the comments above, over priced, logo,….

  29. When I saw the top picture I wasn't sure – aside from the Chanel-induced mild hyperventilation that comes as standard! But the way they are worn in the second picture does make me think they are wonderfully chic when worn right – in a subtle, classic way. My second thought was, like so many others, will they endure long enough to warrant the high price? But Hannah-Rose says they do, and that is a good enough guarantee for me! Of course I think they are lots of similar two tone, high quality ballet flats (Repetto, French Sole etc) so I suppose one would mostly be buying the logo. But there is something very special about this logo offsetting an outfit with clean, classic, slightly unexpected lines. x

  30. Hello, I have been admiring your blog for a while-thank you for such a distinctive voice! Although I do like looking at ballerina flats, these above included I find them quite uncomfortable to wear. I have bought just weeks ago my first pair (leopard print, very cute in leather) I do regret my purchase as they are, how to say, too flat? Strange, I know, but the flatness makes them uncomfy and I think my feet suffer, in addition the lack of support for feet in this shape of shoe means that they may be on the long run, quite unhealthy (and I bought them to releave my poor feet from hight heels abuse;). In overall, nice shoes in theory, flop in real life. Anyway, perhaps it is only me:)). Keep posting, love your blog!domi

  31. Anonymous above: hi, you are not the only one:)) most ballet flats are by no means designed for long distance walking. i won't wear my ballet flats if i need to walk a lot. and i do walk a lot every day. so they are nice to look at, but not that comfy to walk in, that 's how i feel as well.maybe you can consider moccassins? they have nice support in the bottom and look cute&chic. i started to wear moccassins more than ballet flats for that reason alone. to me, comfort (especially for shoes) overweights anything when it comes to style. i won't make much sacrifice just because something is chic. cause it's more about how i feel than how i look.

  32. These flats are really pretty, I prefer these to the quilted ones and I like the subtle logo.At the moment, there is just no way I can justify the price of these to myself to buy them, possibly in the future and time will tell if I get bored of the two tone look (I hope not because I love it at the moment). I also really love the way they are worn here, nothing's better than showing a bit of ankle.

  33. How ignorant of me to think that Bon Marché no longer exists on the planet. I adore the way she marries those flats with black skinnies. One of my favorite spring weather looks, for sure.

  34. Oh my goodness..these are my absolute dream purchase. I have a 'saving for Chanel flats' fund!xhttp://millyfellintothewardrobe.blogspot.com/

  35. These are extraordinary! My love for flats shall never deplete, when I'm not wearing 6 inches, they're the thing that gives my feet a holiday.

  36. They are lovely. Confession- I have a weakness for Chanel accessories, shoes and jewelry. Those flats are on my short list of things I'm coveting for Spring.

  37. gorgeous and totally worth the investment – I have this color combination and they have held up very well over the years. love your blog! xo

  38. Hi Fleurette!I just wanted to notify something to you. I accidentally stumbled across this post on a blog and it reminded me so much of one of your earlier post that I had to search in your archives to see if I was right. Obviously, the blogger copied your post and just changed some of the words in line with her own purchase. That's so low!http://chouchou-robine.blogspot.com/2011/02/ma-nouvelle-isabel-marant-jacket.htmlThis is what she wrote:MA NOUVELLE ISABEL MARANT JACKETA few weeks ago I received my most recent investment. A bouclé wool jacket from the Isabel Marant f/w 2010 collection. I've been searching for this particular jacket ever since I saw it on the catwalk. And these Isabel Marant jackets are so rare that I couldn't let it pass by. It's the perfect piece of clothing, exactly what I've been looking for!And this is your post: http://deadfleurette.blogspot.com/2010/12/ma-nouvelle-veste.htmlAwfully similar, don't you think? She's making a fool of herself since she says that she's been searching for that jacket "ever since I saw it on the catwalk", but that jacket has never been on the runway. (Clearly copied from your post!).. It's from etoile… I have it myself and I'm a huge IM fan so I know everything about her collections.Sorry for long comment. I just hate plagiarism. It's okay to copy some phrases or words from various sites, but this is an imitation of your post on the same subject, which is plagiarism in other words.

  39. those flats really are gorgeous! and i always seem to see them on very well-dressed, pretty women who make me want them even more. aside from the price, the reason i haven't committed to them is that i know flats don't do anything impressive for my stumpy legs, so i wonder if i wouldn't appreciate them enough.

  40. They are gorgeous, I'd just be so worried about ruining something I'd payed so much for. I go through shoes so quickly- they would end up scuffed and sole-less.

  41. IDK, Fleurette. You are right to wait. I encourage you to wait a season or two. I just bought a pair of Ferragamo Varas and, for now, one pair of gorgeous shoes are enough. Not to mention that I've been waiting to make a decision. I don't know that the Chanel flats in all their chic simplicity merit any rush. Also, I just posted the 29th outfit for the I6L styling challenge.Twenty-nine of 30!XOXO-La Copine=)

  42. I love the Chanel pumps – and have done for years!!! It is a love that gets stronger with time, I think! I still have yet to buy a pair though!! :)

  43. I wasn’t particularly looking for these flats but rather sandals … then I ended up seeing them on the shelf. I wasn’t going to pass trying them on right?!

Tried them, will get them. No second thought :)
Sometimes when one knows it’s right, then it is!
