Spring wardrobe planning pt. 1

(via net-a-porter, apc, colette, diptyque)

I have been dreadfully busy and I can’t even remember when I’ve had time to purchase all these things. Oh well… at least I’ve made some great purchases and indulged in small luxuries to lighten up my sappy life.

I often get questions on what to wear under a semi-sheer or white shirt. Frankly, I’m the last person one should ask when it comes to bras and such, but hear me out! Net a porter offered free shipping last week, and it would be remiss of me not to take advantage of this promotion to invest in the perfect solution for white shirts. So, for those of you who have been struggling with alarming exposure of certain body parts or undergarments; I highly recommend this bra from Calvin Klein. It’s truly magical!

Also, I stumbled across two items I have been trying to unearth for almost a year now simultaneously. The taint of anger is permanently vanished now that I have obtained them. The striped cashmere sweater from A.P.C. is utmost perfection – it’s such an incredible confection that ought to be broached. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it looks as though it was constructed on my body. Too bad I managed to spill red wine on that sweater on its first outing.

In terms of wardrobe planning, however, I haven’t been planning at all, yet I am absolutely happy with each investment. I think my current method works wonderfully – I only settle for perfection. Although I don’t work from a list, I am positively confident in my aptitude to instantaneously descry what works and what doesn’t for my style. I do keep an unwritten list of essentials in mind when I hunt for new wardrobe cornerstones, but I’m open for unpredictable and unplanned finds too, as I’m aware that the most successful mainstays of my wardrobe result from an acute, unaccountable craving. Moreover, making collages helps me to discern between likes and dislikes – it’s as though I reach a kind of collage nirvana that has the answer to whether I should settle for a garment or not. (Credit to Stephanie for the ‘collage nirvana’-phrase).

PS: I’ve bought a domain for my blog, deadfleurette.com.

  1. Hello! I've been wanting to ask you what size do you get ur APC shirts in? I live in Canada so unfortunately can't try them on before purchasing online, but it looks like we wear about the same size!merci!xx

  2. - Helena: My cotton breton shirt is size XS and slightly big for me, whereas the cashmere one is size S and has the perfect loose fit (and the length is perfect!) + the shirt with liberty print is size 34. I have not received it yet but I know it fits because I tried it in size 36 in Paris and it was too big. I'll show you photos soon :)- K: Thanks! Oh, I forgot to mention in this post that the weather has been AMAZING in Oslo as of late. I have been sporting my favorite silhouette ever since saturday. Finally able to wear my new linen trousers, IM boots and breton shirts with my bator coat.

  3. The nude bra is also my savior for sheer white shirts. I think you really only need nude bras and black bras. White and colored bras serve absolutely no purpose for me. I LOVE the striped APC sweater!! I want it as well but will likely wait for whatever season in the future APC decides to do this sweater again (or some similar variation). It should, right? My husband has the matching cardigan, btw, lol. I'm still torn whether I like the list method or not. I think you trust your instincts more than I do to not lead to impulse buys. I can't tell you how many things I've already returned this season … certainly more than I've kept, which is such a waste of shipping $$. In any event, from now on, I'm never buying something from a place that only allows returns for store credit. But back to the list thing … I think I'm still trying to maintain a list of items that fill certain holes in my wardrobe but will allow a couple of unplanned purchases per season (f/w and s/s). Yeah … we'll see how that works out in the fall, lol :) Anyway, cute stuff, I'm expecting outfit pictures!

  4. that apc sweater is perfect! I remember when it was on net a porter I was really close to buying it. Hopefuly they make another one like it soon as they seem to repeat some styles every few years. Did you manage to get the wine out of it? I also had my eye on an apc striped shirt but it sold out in my size.

  5. I have that bra in black, it's lovely. But, a sheer lace bra under a sheer shirt sounds like a problem to me – at least one layer needs to be opaque, no?

  6. oh to have small enough lady parts to wear a bra like that. mine practically need a mast and rigging *sigh*love the jumper, you should try plain soda water on the red wine. i had a drunken idiot pour red wine all over my favourite sheer white shirt and the soda water got it looking sparkling again :)

  7. I totally agree with S about nude bras…they really are the best for sheer and light colored shirts! I'm not really an undergarments enthusiast, but I also agree that black and nude bras are the only two shades of underpinnings a lady needs. That Liberty print A.P.C. shirt is so lovely. I wish I had purchased it when I had the chance. :)I have the same A.P.C. sweater! It's perfect, but I think I bought mine in the wrong size. Their sizing tends to be inconsistent, in my experience. I hope you're able to get the wine stain out.

  8. The breton sweater does look like perfection. I am so sad to hear it got doused with red wine. I'm usually terrified to wear my light coloured clothing as I am not careful at all. Can't wait for the spring weather and a lighter way of dressing.

  9. I've been trying to plan my spring wardrobe, and I have like 8 parts so far.. so much I want! Thanks for the inspiration!chicdisplay.blogspot.com

  10. nude bras are awesome. i can't stand any sort of padding or wires and swear by the most minimalist versions. a little lace is also just the right amount of embellishment!by the way, not sure if you or any readers here are interested, but i'm editing a few cherished items from my wardrobe to prepare for spring and one is a lovely mint pair of *Isabel Marant* tall leather boots.http://lesantimodernes.blogspot.com/2011/03/isabel-marant-tall-boots-for-sale.htmllooking forward to your new blog layout when you free yourself from blogspot! :)

  11. Happy to see a new post!Since you mention that you are aware of your likes and dislikes, I'm curious to know what your dislikes are. For instance, are there certain colors that you avoid, certain types of clothing (like flared trousers), etc?

  12. Nydelige kjøp! Av og til må man bare ha en ekstra striks periode for å venne seg av med gamle uvaner (som å tro at man må ha det og det, selv om man ikke finner den perfekte versjonen). Jeg håper å komme dit hen snart…

  13. I for one am jealous of your candles. I always look at them in the store and just can't seem to fork out the money for something so fleeting.

  14. That sweater looks perfect. If you get the wine stain out post a pic of you wearing it so we can see the beauty of such a perfect fit! Also, I'm with you on the concept of nude bras, but this one, beatiful as it is, looks so lacy and sheer, I fail to see how it will help with exposure issues under a sheer shirt. I mean, don't you just end up with major lace-over-nipple action then? Am I being obtuse?http://nomadic-d.blogspot.com/

  16. what a shame about the wine stain. my cream silk shirt is constantly covered in damp marks because the minute i get it drycleaned, i throw white wine all over it again! i love that liberty-print blouse.

  17. Such a fresh feeling collage for Spring! I'm biding my time but I too will be heading down the Figuier route when Spring arrives more consistently! It such a lovely fresh yet warm scent to have wafting around the house. It only hurts a little bit that you're enjoying the APC jumper so much!! Had it been just that little bit looser I would have without a doubt kept it, but my loss is your wonderful gain and I hope (wine stains aside) it stays in your wardrobe for years to come! Very glad it has gone to a good home – it really is such a brilliant sweater. Enjoy! xx

  18. I hope the wine stain comes out and wasn't very big :-( And I know you've been on the lookout for that printed shirt for a while now, so congrats! I have a hard time finding a good t-shirt bra, one that has enough coverage but the seams don't show through the t-shirt. I would need underwire for support, but otherwise that bra is darling!

  19. i sympathise with the stain accidents, being thoroughly clumsy. second the soda water/baking soda paste method but think its meant to work best when the accident occurs. the liberty print shirt is lovely. Sonhttp://navyandbeige.wordpress.com

  20. Love that striped APC sweater and that CK bra is my favorite as well :) Did you manage to get the red wine out?

  21. I love the APC sweater (of course…I mean, it's striped and it's cashmere, so what's *not* to love). I also love your collage, although, maybe it's because I am deliriously tired, but it looks humorous to have candles and a magazine as part of your wardrobe *imagines Fleurette balancing a candle on each hand and the magazine perched on her head* LOL

  22. I hope the wine stain goes away and you can enjoy your sweater again.I struggle with an olive oil stain on my favorite shirt ,at the moment. It doesn´t go away.

  23. - S: Haha, I agree, and colored socks also serve no purpose for me. You should wait, they always make different versions of the striped sweater. There is currently a great one in the A.P.C. store, here is a photo of me trying it on: img84.imageshack.us/i/dsc01214.png.. Haha, I don't know if you have good access to stores that carry your favorite brands, but perhaps it's better to try them on instead of ordering online? And I despise store credit. I never buy something from stores that only offer store credit unless i'm 100% certain I will keep the item. With store credit, you're obliged to buy something only to use the store credit. – Alex: Yes, they will most likely make something similar, they always do.. but sometimes they make them in strange color combinations, like purple and orange. I managed to save my sweater, fortunately!- appletwo: Hmm, maybe… maybe not super sheer but semi-sheer. It works under my semi-sheer linen shirt.- La Fille mal Gardée: Wow, thanks for the tip! I managed to remove the stains but I will try out your advice next time.. not that I want to stain my sweater again, haha- jennifer: Yes, the sizes are so inconsistent, which bugs me. :-( Fortunately, I'd tried that sweater on before purchasing it, so I knew which size I had to go for!- Pret a Porter P: Hahaha, that's so true! I was FURIOUS when I saw that everything I wanted popped up all at once.. I almost bought a blue shirt and planned to buy a black knit from IM as well – four things that I've been searching for.. but I ended up eliminating two of the items.- L.L.: Me too! However, never wear anything white to parties, drinks, etc.. from now on, I'll only wear black tops when going out or drinking red wine.- miss sophie: I second that! That's why I'm loyal to bras from COS and CK. Perfect for flat-chested women. – Jane A: Regarding my dislikes, it's more like that I know what doesn't work for my style and body. I love leather jackets but they are too edgy for my style so I swear by more feminine jackets. I have figured out that I can't wear chunky knits because I'm a jacket person and chunky knits do not fit under such jackets. I also dislike clothes with silver hardware because I don't like to mix metals.- c: Oh, too bad I already have the black one!- Karen: Helt enig! Nå gidder jeg ikke å kjøpe ting som er 95% perfekte (som ikke kan fikses på, bukser kan like godt være 95% perfekte) fordi jeg vet at jeg ikke kommer til å bruke det.- asha: I thought the same a few weeks ago, but I can't describe their power to cheer me up and clear my mind. You could always buy them cheaper on ebay, etc!- Nomadic D.: Haha, I get your point. Well, I've tried the bra under my semi-sheer tops and they work perfectly. No major lace-over-nipple action here, haha.

  24. - MyFavouriteThings: Takk, du er så grei! Det er jo bare bra å være kresen.. :) selv da jeg var en ufornuftig shopper var jeg også kresen, haha.. litt rart det der.- Kate: The stains are fortunately practically gone! :-D- caroline: Thanks!- Olivia: I can't say how grateful I am, thank you very very much for reselling it to me. I doubt that I'll be able to part with that sweater as spring is approaching. I'm also planning to purchase another one (if I'm fortunate enough to stumble across another one in my size) just in case I manage to spill more red wine on this one. However, I'll let you know if I see it in size M on ebay!- koko: The stains are gone, fortunately. It wasn't just a big stain but loads of tiny stains. Not all of them are completely gone, but at least they're not super visible. I hate when the seams show through the t-shirts. This particular bra is a savior!- R A: Haha cool! I guess you have the gentlewoman, some candle and …?- son: Thank you! I will try out that method next time I'm being clumpsy!- featherfactor: Yes, the stains are practically gone :)- TJP: Haha, as a matter of fact I wasn't supposed to write a wardrobe planning-esque post but it turned out to be one eventually. I made the collage before I started typing, hahah.. I agree with you that it's a tad hilarious. How can a magazine and candles be part of my wardrobe planning? Lol!- angie: The stains are gone, fortunately. It's a shame that the olive oil stain won't go away. Have you tried to remove the stain with dishwashing liquid?- tribal-fox: Thank you!

  25. I'm keen to go and try a Calvin Klein bra now. As I wear mostly white tops I find comfortable soft bras are hard to find for under a sheer shirt. Thanks for the tip!

  26. thanks for the picture of the striped sweater! It looks cute on you! I like it, but I think I will still wait until APC does the sweater with the solid top again. I much prefer to shop in person than online shop, because so many times online shopping, you are just paying shipping fees to try things on. But my son doesn't like shopping, and I feel bad asking my husband to watch him so I can shop, if you know what I mean. Btw, congrats on the new domain!!

  27. Topshop has a great collection for this season and you can get some cool items for yourself! So try your luck and get some Topshop fresh outfits for your wardrobe!

  28. glad you got toumbac, like i said, it's my favourite of the APC candles.. there's something about that heady, incense-y smell.X

  29. I keep forgetting that it's Spring. It's cold in New York City (it even snowed last week). I'm glad to hear that the weather in Oslo has been great. I always keep a running list of essentials and basics that I'm looking for in my head. I adore that bra. I might have to order it from Net a Porter. I love that they will deliver same day in Manhattan. Calvin Klein really designs flattering options for petite women. A nice cotton shirt and a striped sweater are perfect for Spring!
