Just the redolence of fig in your home, good literature, simple but gorgeous lingerie, or beauty in a bottle that looks like something you produced in the chemistry laboratory are the little, perhaps frivolous, joys in life that can revitalize you.

I have those Calvin Klein bras, and I agree… small, simple little pieces that can brighten my day, even if nobody but myself knows I'm wearing them!
There is definitely something about Fig scents that conjure up lovely memories for me too. I used to have a Diptyque Figuier candle (one of my small luxuires!) in my room at university and wore Philosykos one summer. The scent wafted past me on the underground to work the other day and I was instantly transported back. Can't wait to wear Philosykos again this summer. Is this APC one a scent or linen spray? x
Small things are the nicest; my life philosophy is to get everything you can from the small things because the big things are often tiring or disappointing! A little pessimistic, but I enjoy life so much because of little pleasures.
I love this collection of photos and simple pleasures. I like the idea of simple and clean clothes with a lace bra underneath … it's like a little secret from the world.
This may be a bit personal so excuse me if it is…but for me, I can only wear those pretty little lace bras if I am wearing a dark loose fitting top or if it is a light and thin top, with another top underneath. I have seen similar bras on other blogs and I just wonder if it is only me that is like that. Or do you just wear them with whatever, whenever? I love your blog and photographs, they are so effortless xxx
- MyFavouriteThings: Så sant!- Olivia: I too love the scent of fig. The Dyptique candle is a bit too expensive for me so I'm pretty happy with my spray from A.P.C. I don't know, but I think it's a linen spray? I can spray it on my clothes too.. but it's mainly for the room.- Kate: I sort of agree with you. Well, there are big things that aren't tiring or disappointing such as a good grand piano or something, haha.. I think it's the small, unnoticeable pleasures that also matter. Never underestimate the power of those things.- Eva: And also pretty!- Pret a Porter P: Indeed!- S: Thank you, and I completely agree with you. You said it, it's like a little secret. – Robin: Thank you. I actually bought the books at Shakespeare and Company. Very overpriced because of its touristic exposure, and I only went there because my friends wanted to go there. I could probably get 10 books on amazon for the same price. I, personally, prefer WHSmith near Palais Royal. It's the best book store for English books in Paris, and not touristy at all.- Anonymous: Don't worry, I don't mind the question at all. In fact, I just wear those lace bras with whatever, whenever. Partly it's because I only own a few 'bras' because it's truly IMPOSSIBLE for me to find bralettes without hoops. I'm practically flat-chested. I don't know if there are any rules for wearing bras? Perhaps I'm all wrong. And thank you kindly!- Stylenerd, Ammu, Wing-Wah, Susanna, dasmaedchenmitdenlocken: Thank you!
Lucky you that you can wear those "bras." I wish I were less endowed in that department. All those pretty, lacey bras just won't give me the support I need. Oh well, we always want what we don't have… — Helen
I completely agree with what you consider small luxuries. I too absolutely adore scents, fine lingerie, literature, and nice skincare products. Definitely little joys that have the ability to revitalize you. Two unrelated questions: 1. If you found a pair of pants (at around $60, so not too expensive) that met every one of your criteria, BUT was much too long, would you get them anyway and then get them hemmed? I too have been very conscious about buying only items that truly *feel* perfect when I try them on. In this case, I'm torn because everything was perfect (the color especially – a very particular shade of navy blue that I've been searching for), except for the length. 2. How do you feel about leopard prints?Merci!xx(sybarite.tumblr.com)
Exactly how I feel it aswell! The little things, like the pleasure of investing in something you've saved for a long time.Your items are pure everyday-luxury I'd say.
Many thanks for the comments!- Helen: At least you may not having a hard time unearthing fitting bras. Yes, we always want what we don't have.. always, haha.- Catherine: They are novels by French writers. You can read more about them here and here.- Jane: 1: Yes, you should get them hemmed. Fitting pants are very very hard to find, so you should give in when you find the almost-perfect pair because I'm not so sure if perfect trousers exist (forget the latter if you've blessed with a model frame). I've hemmed myself my own almost-perfect trousers and now they are perfect. 2. It depends on the size of the print, the color and garment. Leopard can be so tacky, but also very elegant. For instance this dress(link) from Maje. I saw it in Paris and I think it's gorgeous. I remember I commented on it and said that I love when the print is tiny.- Sarah Dee: Thank you kindly. It's from Calvin Klein.
fig is my favourite scent of all time.. philosykos is what i wear. the little, simple pleasures can often bring the most happiness. sorry we never met up in paris! i loved your little spread of purchases, reminded me of the editorial in the gentlewoman magazine. i'll have to share my spread soon!X
What a beautiful post! And I couldn't agree more. While I try to buy as little as possible these days (and never unless I absolutely love/need it), there's nothing like some gorgeous new lingerie, skincare, a new lipstick or scented candle, or even a new book or giant bunch of flowers to bring a sense of bliss.
