I guess my absence has indicated that I’m currently in Paris. I’ve just spent a lovely week with my friends here. My parents and sister arrived in Paris last night, so now I’m heading to my uncle’s house to spend the rest of my trip with my family and relatives.
I haven’t been a ‘good shopper’. Apparently I’ve become exaggeratedly picky, especially this season. I’ve only bought a breton shirt from A.P.C. and lingerie. And some books and Kiehl’s products.. that’s all. For those of you who follow my tumblr; the Sofia Coppola x Louis Vuitton clutch I had planned to purchase turned out to look acutely cheap and trop moche in real life. That clutch epitomizes that some things just look better in pictures.
However, see you in a week or so!
whats you tumblr?
It must be really disappointing about the clutch, but I am kind of relieved that you said that, as I kind of wanted it as well one day.. what you bought sounds so nice though..sometimes really simple small purchases can be just as satisfying as bigger ones. apc breton, books and Kiehl's = perfectIn apc did you happen to see the camel suede ankle boots? No purchases from Isabel Marant?
Tu connais Jeanne Damas? Tu as passé du temps avec elle durant ton séjour? Vivement ton retour et des nouvelles! Profites à fond! Des baisers
love the boots!x
Great boots. Have fun hanging out with your family!xhttp://anewpairofvintageboots.blogspot.com/
I thought the same thing when I saw the clutch in person. Enjoy your time with your family and friends!
Hope you are having so much fun in Paris. I agree about the SC clutch. It was disappointing. The breton shirt sounds great- you can never have to many. XO
Great picture! Sounds like you're having fun in Paris. That's very disappointing about the clutch, but I agree that it's also a relief! Saves you so much money … hopefully you can find something nicer for less $$. I admire your pickiness … that is something I need to work on myself. But the things you've purchased sound like wonderful simple pleasures. Enjoy your time with your family!
There's this part of me that's always secretly relieved to discover that some item I coveted isn't actually "all that" in person. It lets my finances off the hook, and one way or another it's nice to scratch an item off my master list. The items that have exceeded my expectations are the Burberry Maniston trench, the Chanel classic flap bag, Manolo Blahniks, Repettos, and S.T. Dupont fountain pens. I've been fortunate enough to slowly acquire these gorgeous items, which are a small pleasure each time I use them.Enjoy your trip!
you wouldn't happen to have already have made a "paris guide" or would make one? I'm going there in 2 weeks, and it's been a long time since I visited last time :-DAnd with your style – a Paris Guide would absolutely be amazing! (:
Sorry about the clutch! At least you'll save money by not buying it.Enjoy the rest of your stay in Paris! I wish I could go back there, like, right now!
Hahaha it's not just you…..I guess all of us who read your blog, hold a similar kind of mentality towards shopping and making a thoughtful addition to our wardrobes. I have been extremely picky recently……Also agree that some things do look like a million bucks in photos only to disappoint in real life…..a lot of things I see in online stores turn out to be just that. Have a wonderful time in Paris. I do not know if you are much into photography or not, but I would have loved to look at Paris through your eyes. Love from Toronto, Canada
I want those boots so much, but I want to be in Paris even more!
Sorry to hear the clutch wasn't all that in person – I would worry too about suede. Clare Vivier's remake clutches are quite lovely and free of embellishment. I got one last year in black patent with a yellow lining and it's holding up well. Plus the price is utterly reasonable.I completely support your pickiness – I have bought 3 things this season and have no desire for anything else. A navy hand-woven wool pashmina, a black Alexander Wang bag, which has the soft lines of the SC LV bag, and my iPad. Feel very satisfied. It's a much better place to be than constantly in the search for something trendy and new.Which books did you buy?
Ohhh Paris! I just LOVE that city!vSuch a bummer the clutch didn't turn out the way you wanted! But it's s good thing to be picky ;)
I'm the same way. I've been extrememly picky about the things I buy recently.
It's very admirable that you could take a step back and decide the clutch wasn't what you hoped it would be. So often when you build up to a big purchase like that you just go right ahead regardless of a few nagging doubts because you've been planning it for so long. Really good that you decided against it – there will be other beautiful, classic things that will warrant your attention! Love the picture – IM boots club! x
Please post pictures of your purchases. Would love to see them!
Those boots are great, they seem to fit with everything. I think pickiness can be a really good thing – you won't end up with unnecessary things, and the things you get in the end tends to be perfect. I'm currently in training to become pickier. But I must say it's very disappointing thing when you've saved money for ages and really looking forward to buy a piece, and then it's not what you've expected. So, too bad about that clutch. Hm. I think the whole SC + LV-collection looks great, but I've just seen it in pictures. Enjoy the rest of your stay in Paris!
Sorry to hear that shopping wasn't much of a succes. What about the Vara flats? I want to go back to Paris so badly! Hopefully I'll be able to make a trip later this year… Well, enjoy the rest of your stay! ;)
love the pic of your boots! :) as for clutches, i think the SC x LV clutch is way overpriced for what it is, which is a glorified wallet with interesting hardware. funny how the size of the accessory has little correspondence to the price…i love the PM SC bag though. sigh…
Was this the dress you were looking for?http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/108956
Heldiggris som får shoppet i nydelige Paris! Kos deg masse!- Despitecolor
One item I saved up for that brings me pleasure every single day is my Givenchy Nightingale bag. Pure love.
In a way, I like it when an item disappoints me and I no longer want it. It's a nice test of my resolve – I get so much pleasure from ticking something off a list, it's conceivable I'd buy a sub-par item just for that! I'm searching for the perfect tapered jeans for summer at the moment, and I'm enjoying the hunt as much as I will the jeans. I'm looking forward to seeing your APC breton – there are so many different fits, and I'm interested to know what you favour. I have several different fits for different moods!
So annoying when you see something in the flesh and it doesn't live up to expectations. The APC breton top is still a classic purchase though and you can never have enough Khiels!xhttp://millyfellintothewardrobe.blogspot.com/
Thank you for the comments. It's always incredibly lovely to read them. I didn't have the chance to reply to your comments as the internet connection in Paris was rather bad as well as I rather spend my time enjoying my stay than answering the comments, haha. Please forgive me!For those of you who said that it's a relief to discover that the one and only item you've been coveting isn't a dream in real life – I absolutely agree with you. It happens all the time and that only makes me even pickier in a good way. Now I don't need to feel terrible about spending 1100 euros on a clutch. – anonymous: my tumblr is adieu-tristesse.tumblr.com- alex: Yes, I saw the suede boots. They're lovely but I don't need them + the shaft height is too high for my taste. I ended up with three purchases from Isabel Marant, which I purchased straight after posting this blog post ironically. Haha! Perhaps it was my destiny. – Tatiana: Oui, je connais Jeanne et c'est vrai j'ai passé beaucoup du temps avec elle durant mon séjour à Paris. Elle est trop trop sympa, une vraie cherie!- Camilla: I'm too lazy to make a Paris guide, but during my stay in Paris I befriended (via Jeanne Damas) a French designer who will do a Paris feature on my blog. Jacquemus. He has expectational taste and knows Paris way better than I do.- Ammu: Only 3 things, you've beaten me. I ended up with 4 garments + two bralettes, A.P.C. home perfume, skincare products, books.. yes… a lot more. I bought L'étranger by Camus and The Unknown Masterpiece )+ Gambarra) by Balzac.- owl: Disappointing, yes, but on the other hand quite relieving I think! – heart in a cage: The Vara flats in matte leather don't come with gold bows this season.. or next season.. so apparently, I have to look for them on etsy or ebay. :-(- miss sophie: I agree with what you're saying about the price and size.- G: Yes, but it's too big and expensive for me.- Kate: I agree with you! My APC breton is the classic cotton one, you've probably seen it in all of my collages here on my blog. The navy/white stripey one. I've been needing a light breton shirt for summer days.
well it's good to know about the clutch. I've been eyeing that one for a loong time now…
wow lovely boots!
hey look, kate bosworth has the same boots as youhttp://www.whowhatwear.com/website/admin/uploads/ANSWERS_2-24_v3.jpg
