I might want to take a closer look

(via lagarconne.com)

.. at this chic cotton-linen blazer from Vanessa Bruno Athé. Yes, I can divulge with earnestness that I have a thingfor jackets, and I assume my inclination derives from those French Voguettes and their partiality towards statement jackets. Regardless, I can’t help but adore garments, particularly jackets, that are made from a cotton/linen blend; it’s really the best thing to wear, especially during the warmer months. I love the casual look of linen clothes, and this confection would instantly impart a perennial casualness to sleek and polished outfits. It is also a great option for those chillier summer nights. And of course; the sleeves need to be offhandedly rolled up in order to achieve the effortless look.

I imagine myself wearing it over whichever linen t-shirt, with a pair of black cropped, perhaps a bit slouchy, jeans and a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo flats. I will surely look for this jacket in Paris.

And oh! I just realized that this post instances my wardrobe planning process. Anyhow, my blog serves as a place in which I can ramblingly document my wardrobe planning process, so you should expect many posts comme ça in the future. Rather boring, I know (but it’s my blog, hehe!).

  1. lovely piece. i find that i, too, have a thing for jackets, but have quite a collection already. i rarely wear them as it's usually too hot or too cold but have been building my OTHER collection of tops (more sweaters, heavier tops, etc) to remedy the situation. thanks for the insight into your planning process. it's a great guide!

  2. - Pennerad: Thank you kindly. I honestly can't even tell you how much it means to me to hear that my rambling planning posts are in actuality appreciated. :-) I wish for a climate that is neither too hot nor too cold. I suppose France exemplifies this kind of climate, hence French people are able to wear such jackets.

  3. I agree with Pennerad. You share a tremendously interesting insight into your planning, something I have not yet seen on other blogs. I like that you're documenting your planning, it's really helpful and inspiring as I am trying to become a better shopper just like you =) Your blog has never or will never be boring. Even the way you articulate yourself in your posts is worthy of reading.Thank you for writing the best blog. It's so refreshing and inspiring!

  4. That is a nice jacket, it almost looks like chambray.I have amassed quite the collection of jackets. They instantly polish any look even if it's a ratty tee and jeans. Despite my collection of jackets I don't wear them casually as it's too hot. For casual I rely on sweaters which can just be thrown in the machine. I've seen Zara do nice loosely structured linen jackets (which could handle the machine), but I will hold off when that sort of style becomes a "necessity."

  5. That jacket looks really good – I can imagine you with a white tee, rolled up pants, oxfords and that jacket. Not usually a fan of shoulder pads but this is good stuff.

  6. This is such a great piece.I used to have a blazer of the sort, which kept its shape, kept me cool, and looked effortlessly polished in the warmer months. It finally ripped after five years of non-stop use and the lining is more than worn out. I like the usefulness of this one, but am not interested in its denim look and rougher-looking texture. XOXO-La Copine=)

  7. I have been eying that jacket for some time now. But I have only one concern…. will the linen-cotton blend not get wrinkled easily? I love my outfit to go from day to night but do you think this blazer will stay nice and chic and will not rumple after being through an entire day?

  8. Oh and I wanted to thank you for mentioning Leo Babauta's blogs. I believe I came across them on a question you answered on formspring or something similar, but they have been sources of enormous inspiration, support and fun to me to say the least. LoveTashrin

  9. Nice jacket – I like Vanessa Bruno's clothing a lot, the quality is also very good and easy to maintain.Seconding the other commenters, I love these planning posts, I think about my wardrobe process the same way. It's nice to know that I am not alone :)

Sukk. Får vente til feriene kommer.

  12. I love jackets. They add instanst polish to any look and I find myself reaching for one often. Luckily, they also add a lot of professionalism to my work wear and keep me warm in cool offices. Love.As another reader mentioned, I too am leary of linen because of the wrinkly factor. I cannot stand wearing wrinkled clothing.

  13. Hi :-) Sorry about the late respons. The Celine is 1250 euros… I alredy LOVE it :-) Thanks for your response to my questions. Lotte

  14. That's chambray: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Wbd-uMYmb_4/SoS5NFImxBI/AAAAAAAAFGY/nIlt_Jenap8/s1600-h/blue+chambray.JPG and the blazer's fabric looks nothing like it, unless you mean chambray blue, the colour. Photo taken from http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/2009/08/dress-shirt-informality.html (a wonderful blog on men's classic clothing).I also disagree on the "jacket is not casual" statement. The formality depends on the fabric, the cut of the jacket and of the lapels, the colour, the colour of buttons, number of buttons, rows of buttons, number of fastenable buttons in double beasted blazers, the rest of clothes :) For example: a brown three-button cotton or tweed blazer is so unformal that some people would never allow themselves to be seen in it in the city. Note, that I really tried not to sound like a big-headed smart-ass and that, luckily, women don't have to follow all the rules that cause men their morning headaches. It's good to know them, though.

  15. finally having my computer back, i can comment on how much i love your blog. i read all of it! also i love that you used the expression bohemian bourgeois in an earlier post, which is one of the most hilarious & befitting neologisms ever.

  16. If the jacket is really linen-cotton, it's going to wrinkle, but I always say wrinkles add character, haha. A lining helps to keep the struture and shape, but a heavy lining will defeat the purpose of such a cool fabric. In any case, you'll have the chance to to check it out in person, lucky you :)I think you can't beat a jacket for something that looks great and is also practical – awesome investment if there is to be one.

  17. Oh, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the kind comments.- Anonymous: Thank you so much! You're far too kind!- Prêt à Porter P: Pret, why don't you post your jacket collection on your blog soon? I'd love to see your lovely gems!- Amanda: Me too! But I have to get hold of a new pair of brogues in order to achieve that look. Oh, shoulder pads… they're unavoidable!- La Copine: Oh no, don't say such things… I am not emotionally ready to let go of my favorite clothes.- Tashrin: I have no idea, but as Lin said, wrinkles add character. I'm glad you found Babauta's blogs inspiring!- Ammu: Agree! The quality is great, not to mention the fit of the clothes! And thank you kindly!!- Nanne: Tusen takk, du er altfor snill! Fordelen med klær i lin/bomull er vel at det er enklere å vaske dem. Jeg fordrar håndvask!- Maria: Det er ikke så bra utvalg i Oslo heller.. eller små størrelser. :-(- TJP: Agree! I always feel a tad more professional and decent when I wear such jackets.- do I have to: I assume you're replying to Pret a Porter P's comment?- bénédicte: Thank you so much.. means the world to me!- Anonymous: Merci! J'adore Cafe Mode, c'est un blog très sympa.- lin: I agree with your statement that wrinkles add character as much as creases and deformations do. Thank you for the tips, I am literally clueless when it comes to said things.

  18. cotton linen really is the best natural fibers blend for spring/summer. the cotton gives the linen a crispness that a 100% linen piece would utterly lack. i've a favorite club monaco cotton/linen blazer in a light gray that i'm looking forward to wearing when it warms up. if i had it my way and didn't live in the real world of dry cleaning bills, i'd wear silk, cotton and linen all summer long!
