Elali jacket

A blog post about my purchases is coming up. However, please don’t expect anything huge as I, for one, regard shopping as a chore rather than a funny weekend activity with friends. In the meantime, take a gander at this incredible gem of a confection. I swear, some pieces will never cease to stun me, and this jacket accurately embodies my statement. I am over the moon about this find. Moreover I know for sure that this particular jacket is one of the cornerstones of my wardrobe; an item that I always look forward to wearing as it gives me such joy to wear.

Anyhow, this jacket is, surprisingly enough, from Isabel Marant’s mainline collection. You Isabel Marant die hards have most likely seen the black or white version of it on the runway.

  1. It's beautiful ! I'm glad you finally found something to buy before going back to Norway. Amazing choice, the jacket is perfect :)xxx

  2. - balladofathingirl: Thank you darling! It truly is perfect!- jennifer, amalie: Thank you!- Ally: Thanks. It's actually linen and not wool.- Mouse: Merci! The trimming is 100% lamb leather.

  3. What a pretty jacket! Great purchase.I think, however, you should try to take some pleasure in gathering these items rather than be so serious about the 'chore' of shopping. It's really okay to have fun looking at shops in Paris? I mean, if no where else, at least there, no?

  4. Completely stunning and worthwhile investment. I cannot see you ever getting tired of this … it's perfectly classic but without being stuffy. Sooo good. I can't wait to see how you will wear this!

  5. This is beautiful fleurette! I can see how a jacket like this would become an instant corner stone in your wardrobe. I also like that you went for it in the navy – a less severe choice and somehow more enduringly chic! Lovely. x

  6. What a beauty! I can't wait to see the fit on you. Do you think this kind of jacket only works if you have a thin torso/long arms? I'm so short and most jackets make me look wider than I really am.

  7. Debbie, Bohemian, Alexandra, Ammu: Thank you!TJP: Thank you. Oh, don't get me wrong, I was over the moon when I purchased my finds in Paris.. of course it's fun to look at shops in Paris, but I wouldn't do that if I didn't have anything to look for. After purchasing this jacket, I was utterly relieved and didn't think of shopping again during the rest of my stay because I didn't need to look for more clothes. Every time I travel to Paris, I always go to the same stores, I always check out the stock at specific designers.. and when I've visited all of the obligatory stores, I've completed my 'chore'. – It's like a habitual ritual/chore.K: There are 3 IM stores in Paris + you can find IM in galeries lafayette, printemps, le bon marche, merci + in other department stores.S: I agree! And the cut, fit and length of the sleeves = all completely perfect. Even the length of the jacket stops at the perfect place. It will become my spring/summer version of the bator coat.Olivia: Thank you! Initially, I was supposed to get it in black.. I thought it was only available in black or white. But I returned to the IM store a few days later after my first stock check, and the SA told me that they received new colors the day before. It was love at first sight, really. I felt too adult-ish and severe in black, so I am terribly happy that I got it in navy. It's more youthful yet very classic. My mom always says that bleu marine is super classic. This one reminds me of the navy Chanel jacket that Lou Doillon wears, a jacket I've been coveting ever since I saw her photo.

  8. Stephanie: Thank you! This jacket is very short, actually.. I can't see it working on tall, Scandinavian girls. There's a photo of me wearing the jacket on my tumblr + I will post more photos soon. For reference, I am 5'4/163 cm tall.

  9. I have a blasphemous confession that I think I love the IM jacket more than Lou's Chanel! Don't get me wrong, Lou looks great, but I have a feeling the scale wouldn't be right on a shorter woman. From your tumblr pictures, yours looks made for you. Did you get a size 1? Anyway, I think it's wishful thinking that any store here will have this! *sigh*

  10. beautiful! and im so glad you got it in navy – unexpected, and yet so classic. the leather piping gives that understated edge as well. love it.

  11. MyFavoriteThings: Tusen takk, du er alltid så snill!S: Haha, well, I kind of agree with your comment. And yes, the scale would be too long for someone as short as you and me. But now I never have to covet Lou's jacket as I have my perfect one. I got it in size 1. Size 0 was too small for me, as though I was wearing a children's jacket. I wonder if there really are THAT tiny French women.. S, you should have e-mailed me right away and I'd get this jacket for you. Now it's a bit too late :-(Son@navyandbeige: Thank you kindly.

  12. Saw this on your tumblr, glad to see close-ups. The texture is beautiful! And I agree, this color is much better than black. Plus it has black trim anyway so I'm sure it will still match everything!

  13. It's so beautiful! I'm envoius, but in a good way! Everything about is perfect. I'm also dying to see a picture of the pants! /sara

  14. so perfect, although I'm not really adding to the discussion by commenting. I looked at you formspring and you look so chic and pretty in those pictures of you =)

  15. a beautiful addition to your wardrobe! the workmanship and quality appear to be flawless. i like the nubby texture and leather trim.

  16. The cut looks clean on the thick fabric, and I would have never thought to sew a navy-cobalt color blend with any shade of chocolate. I am utterly allured.P.S. I just read your re-posting of Ellen Wallace's article on the French women. In love. Found an overwhelming number of inspirational quotes and tips. You lucky girl in Paris.

  17. Navy is my favorite! and I'll just chime in and say, it looks stunning on you on tumblr — so chic and effortless.labellafigura.net

  18. Wow, thank you all for the kind comments! They are appreciated! – koko: Thank you, the texture is indeed splendid. I hope the jacket go with my taupe boots.. an odd color combination, but as the colors will be worn far from each other perhaps they will work together after all.- Garderoben: Thank you! Ah, I don't know how to take photos of the pants.. they are just plain (and the trousers look don't have correspondence with the hefty price tag that comes along..). But I will do my best!!- Alex: Oh, I'm truly taken aback. Thank you kindly, I'm blushing right now.- Style Odyssey: Thanks, I completely agree with you. The workmanship is beautiful!- Kate: YES, you're so right.. haha! So many details, enough to explore when I'm stuck on the bus or something.- Jessie: The leather trimming is actually black. The light in the photos isn't 100% accurate.- Kristi: Thank you so much!

  19. oooooh very lovely purchase! looking forward to see how you style it. i've been feeling some more texture lately – i like the nubby wool or boucle-like tendencies in IM's collections.

  20. Welcome back, sounds like you had a good ttrip!Navy always rocks, you're mother is right about bleu marine. Plus I always like that it has a bit of the outdoors and the seaside in it, rather than just the city. I like that jacket is linen – gives me hope that I will some day find a jacket like this near me, rather than all the real tweed/wool versions!

  21. omg! you just made me gasp! thank you so much for posting a picture of it, the sleeve trimmings + button combo is so cute! you have impeccable taste.

  22. Love the coat! When you say you dislike shopping, do you mean brick and mortar and online shopping? or just the first one? I'm curious because I love perusing stuff online but have little patience to actually make the trip out to stores now.–kari

  23. Thank you kindly for the response on my jacket!- miss sophie: Thank you, and don't expect anything extravagant. It will probably be part of my uniform. I will wear it over a simple top, black skinny jeans or linen trousers + my IM booties. I'm all about consistency, haha.- lin: Yes, I think this jacket would be good for your tropical climate. Isabel Marant makes tons of linen, silk and light-weighted cotton garments every spring/summer season. – Lotte: The jacket is from Isabel Marant, so naturally I found it in the Isabel Marant store in Paris. I bought this particular one in the rue saintonge shop in haut marais.- Kari: I mean brick and mortar shopping. Not really fond of shopping trips with people as a weekend activity. I rather do something else if I'm bored. (In this context I'm referring to clothes shopping..).
