The never forgotten creations by Isabel Marant pt. 1
Spring/summer 2009: The S/S 2009 collection is not my favorite collection but overall it is truly great and inspirational – and definitely way better than her newest summer collection. A simple but intriguing, feminine yet masculine collection that certainly embodies the real Parisian street style.
I love the loose, slouchy but flattering silhouette, the boy-ish cut jackets that Isabel Marant is known for, the color palette and the subdued bohemian vibe this collection has going. The styling, taken as a whole, is not my approach – but most of the staple pieces, especially the jackets, would make my wardrobe impeccable. And hey! I see a lot of black, and I really appreciate Isabel Marant’s use of black as I wear black all year around.
I never really looked very closely at this collection, but now that you mention it the jackets are really great. I love her collections from 2006, 2007, 2008. Her winter 2008 collection had the most amazing coats and bags. Actually almost everything about that collection was/is very inspiring. So annoying that when her designs become slightly more easy to get hold of, they become undesirable (for me anyway). I was so surprised when I went into a shop about 5 minutes from my flat a few months ago to find that they were stocking her designs. But the only thing I ended up getting were the linen t shirts, cause everything else has covered with studs or other unnecessary embellishment…
Alex: Her winter 2008 collection is my favorite too, and as you said, everything about that collection is very inspiring and wearable. Haha, I agree about the availability nowadays. I also liked all the mystery around it though, despite the fact that it was also exhausting. By that I mean it's fun to e-mail all the stores to request the photos, call around the world for one specific item, travel to Paris to grab a piece, etc. fun that not everyone had access to IM, so the true fans had to do some hard work in order to get hold of her items.
I get what you mean about the styling and I'm not overly crazy about those chain boots either. The little black jacket and the crochet dress are amazing pieces. Her latest collection wasn't my favorite, though I must admit the lookbook images from it are stunning. The runway images didn't appeal to me much.
She is such an amazing designer! I do kind of need to look at the pieces individually off of the runway (like Taylor said the lookbook images were beautiful) sometimes b/c I don't always like the styling but I do think this was a strong collection!
The jackets from this collection are killing me – just like fall/winter before it! Especially the black cuffed jacket you pictured at the bottom. Some of it isn't to my taste, but the basics are right on point for an understated look.
Taylor: I'm so happy that she repeats the crochet dress every summer season (not on the runway). I agree, the lookbook images changed my mind. Extremely beautiful although no one will ever manage to make me wear the very very short skirts and shorts. I'll be doing a post on the lookbook soon :)Bostonista: I usually look at the pieces individually off the runway, and really, IM makes the most versatile, simple but intriguing, wearable pieces.Alison: Yes yes yes to everything!Oh, looking back at the older collections make me a little bit sad. But I do have a hope that her beautiful basics and signature jacket will be in her etoile collections. She always has stuff in the stores that never appeared on the runway.
i loove isabel marant.
Jeg synes kombinasjonen av klassiske plagg med slouchy boots (ville hatt dem uten lenkene, da) og "slappe" topper er helt fantastisk!
I am actually not too keen on how this collection is styled (looks a bit cluttered with all the pieces together) but as you said, each of her pieces are amazing outside the catwalk. I am so lucky that there's boutique that stock IM items near where I live, so I can admire them until the SAs shoo me away! ps: thank you for the prize!
The triumph of this collection lies in its own dichotomy – the contrast and artful marriage between mannish and feminine, considered and insouciant, soft and hard, simplicity and stunning complexity. The juxtaposition of floral motifs and quaint broderie anglaise with fearsome chain boots sums it all.Sarah xhttp://stylesouk.wordpress.com
love your blog…
Nanne: Jeg også, med en twist av nonchalanse.Miss Woo: You're welcome! Style Souk: Love the way you summed it up. You're always so articulate.
I love Isabel Marant, really do! But these boots… I don't know why,but they just don't work for me.
HiI was just wondering: are you french or living in Paris? did you go to the Private sales of Isabel Marant? I went there and as usual it was amazing ;)Bisous Avenue Mode
Avenue Mode: I do not live in Paris :( Oooh, I'd love to go to the private sales! Are there still private sales? Is it clothes from previous collections or the current collection? Envy you! I often get invitations from IRO, Maje, etc for private sales.
Such fabulous cuts.
Hi ;)I bought the boots the kooples in 2008 during the winter sales! But I went to the private sales on wednesday and I saw them; but in one hour, everything was gone!!I think my next purche will be the Isabel Marant's boots in grey or black..there are so cut ;)!!!bisous

Les Inrocks on fashion bloggers – quite close to your own take on fashion blogs, actually:http://www.lesinrocks.com/mode/mode-design-article/t/53350/date/2010-11-07/article/les-blogs-mode-entre-charmante-futilite-et-vacuite-abyssale/
Tullemor: Haha, thanks for sharing
I think the current 'Isabel Marant Problem' is called Emmanuelle Alt. She needs to go back to her rules or all her old fans (i'm wearing her for almost a decade now) will leave her and only the -unloyal- fashionista's she'll get in return.. in the end left with nothing.
rules = rootssorry
Leenhilde: I agree with you, it's too Emmanuelle Alt (even though I love Alt). I have a conspiracy theory about Isabel marant. You can read it in the previous post!
Hey Dead,Just discovered your lovely blog at the worst possible time (10 day deadline for a 12,000 word dissertation. I am trying to save going through your archives for later but can't help myself…)As somewhat of a Marant expert, could you tell me the difference between the various boots of hers that seem to be quite similar e.g dickers, forbes, the ones you have? Does she have a new version out every year with a slight tweak in the design?Forget finding a pair of the real mccoy, I have spent the whole day trying to find a pair of copycats. I was hopelessly trying to track down some Ash Jalouse in the right colour then read about the Ash Mika in Sparrow. Just nabbed the last pair from what I hope is a legitimate online store :oAnyway, don't take too much time off, I'm getting addicted ;)Bisous, Sophia
