Fashion week literally bores me. That explains why I just recently discovered some great collections. I only follow a couple of designers at Paris fashion week such as Dries Van Noten, Balenciaga, Isabel Marant, Martin Margiela, Vanessa Bruno + a few more (they were all disappointing as expected). By habit, I never check out the designers at New York fashion week because I rarely find any intriguing designers.
But one of the few collections from S/S 2011 that I actually like and/or find inspirational (that’s rare!) is the Calvin Klein S/S 2011 collection. Partly because the collection clearly appeals to my aesthetic. I want to wear everything from this collection. I adore the small but significant details like the almost-invisible pockets and drawstrings. All the fabrics look so delicate and I love the way the materials flow on the models. The barely there make-up and the semi-tousled ponytail are effortless and just perfect. As for the pared-down style and the architectural minimalism, Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein is a genius.

i have always like the simplicity of calvin klein. (for me it was the best when calvin klein designing)
Agreed! Love everything in this collection!I usually only 'care' for Paris fashionweek but like you said, most collections were rather dissapointing.Btw, Glad you finally created a tumblr, I'm following you!;)x
If Jane: I'm not familiar with the older CK collections as I was into designers like Luella, Anna Sui, and Betsy Johnson when I was sixteen.. haha.heart in a cage: I'm following you too! LOVE your tumblr!
I just discovered your blog through Love Aesthetics and I must say, this is quite the blog! I love your philosophy towards style and consuming and look forward to reading your future posts. I have gone back and read some of your archived posts where you refer to your previous blog. I’m curious. Why did you delete it? Em K
Emmett Katherine: Hi! Wow, thank you very much. I didn't delete my previous blog. Dead Fleurette is just a reincarnation of the previous Dead Fleurette that was written by a younger Fleurette with a different view on clothes and style, haha. I removed the old posts and wanted to start my blog over again without getting a new address (I suck at naming my blogs!) If you're interested, I've mentioned it in my posts called 'My style evolution' and 'Acknowledge'!
Thanks for the information, when I go back through your archives I'll look out for those posts. Thanks for the compliment on my names, alas it isn't my real name, but my 2 favourite names :)
Nydelig!
Emmett Katherine: Haha, well, you certainly have good taste :-DAne Sunde: Samme her.
Francisco Costa has clearly done his homework. Sleek, clean, aesthetic style is more than perfect. I love ponytails and make-up as well.
I love pretty much all of his collections, but especially spring 2007…I get put off Calvin Klein by the less expensive collections, the clothes are always kind of ugly. Also so cool that you started a Tumblr…I followed right away.
onlycoolcats: :-)Alex: I'll check out the older CK collections! And I'll have spring 2007 in mind. I agree about the ugliness, that might be why I haven't checked out the CK collections before. Always associated CK with those boxer shorts for men.. haha. Cool! What's your tumblr? :-D
hands down ny's best- costa is a genius.
Its http://hatsofftothezebras.tumblr.com/I'm kind of new to tumblr as well
This is what I love about Calvin Klein — the simplicity in the form. Minimalism isn't back, it was just overlooked by the more ostentatious brands. The Black Queen
I tried to take a look at NYFW-collections this fall, but like you I found most of them boring, commercialized and kind of, ehhh, tacky… I have warmer feelings for London and Milan FW though, but I always come back to Paris FWs collections again and again.
FWs were very disappointing this past season. We are always encouraged to look and beware of what other designers are doing by our professors at Uni. But even the favourite who I love, left me feeling unsettled [well sans a few]. CK is definitely a favourite of mine, has been for a while. The label is classic, clean and minimal, and has been for many years, some exceptions aside that is. But for NYC fashion week I also love 'Boy' By Band of Outsiders. These guys really know how to make menswear inspired pieces for women. And while some of their pieces do end up looking 'American', it's not in a negative way. I always love to look and see what their collections for that reason.NYC and Paris is where I focus looking at fashion weeks, London and Milan never catch my interest as much.
ah yes! and eventhough the fabrics are so delicate and flowy, the beautifully cut clothes still remain structured and somehow angular
