The Irish fisherman’s sweater

(via llbean.com)

Timeless, warm, beautiful and absolutely perfect. I want this cable knitted fisherman’s sweater from L.L. Bean in ivory and burgundy. No synthetic fabrics – 100% wool.

My closet consists of clothes that aren’t exactly appropriate for six extremely cold months in Norway. I have been prioritizing designer bags and shirts over clothes that will help me survive the winter. A big no-no! Perhaps I should start stocking up on all those essentials soon. Did I mention the harsh six-month long winter?

However, there is no rush. I don’t have time to “shop” (not that I shop often! I barely shop..) or get out of the house these days. My exams are coming up and I am determined to get straight A’s. H-A-T-E being such a perfectionist.

  1. avenue mode: oui, je suis d'accord. connais-tu la marque française "le mont st michel"? j'aime beaucoup les pulls de la marque! le mont st michel fait des pulls celui-ci aussi!

  2. LL.Bean is truly a fantastic company. The quality of their products is by far one of the best I've ever come across. I own two pairs of their boots; Wellies and their Shearling-lined Bean boots [to survive my winters] and they have held up through many years [and various extreme weathers] of wear. I also have a rucksack of theirs which makes it through travelling as well as carrying books/sketchbooks for Uni. I would highly suggest purchasing the sweater. My papa has one, and I just love to borrow it. It's truly a fantastic piece. I need to get around to purchasing one for myself as to let him have his back, and to have one that isn't 2x larger than I am! Good luck sitting exams!

  3. It's funny because I *just* ordered a cream L.L.Bean fisherman's sweater last week, except I got the boys' version, which is a better fit for me (even though it has a bit of nylon with the wool). I, too, am nervous about the pending winter (I live in Minnesota, which is basically a mirror-image of Norway's).

  4. i've been looking EXTENSIVELY at these for the past few weeks. beautiful. i'm thinking of buying a pair or so when i move. i predict the winter here will be BITTER this year! BEST OF LUCK WITH EXAMS!

  5. Haha, you should put it on your wishlist for christmas, then :)Wouldn't surprise me if the upcoming winter here in Norway would be just as cold as the last one :(Luckily I own an "islender" knitted sweater..

  6. This knitwear seems very warm(wool) and it's cute (today it seems that it is rare). I wish you good luck for your exams (yn). you can always go shopping later… xxx

  7. these are indeed perfect! The burgundy one would look amazing on youI don't like shopping for winter clothes at all! I havn't bought a good wintercoat in 3 years! Dutch winters aren't that pleasant eaither but nothing compared to those of Norway I bet

  8. Thank you for the comments :-) I'm a bit late as for replying but that's due to a lot of studying..Jacquelyn: Wow, thanks for telling me. Glad to hear that someone's really happy about L.L. Bean. i like most of the stuff they carry there and I'm considering buying the sweater in kids size but I'm a bit unsure of the sizing.. and they do not have the kids sweater in burgundy, the color I want the most.TJP: Can't wait to hear from you regarding the sizing. Perhaps you can add a photo of you wearing the sweater as we're both size 0 and I don't know which size I should go for (depending on the fit!).Maria: Haha, the last winter was TERRIBLE!!Ivania: The burgundy is the one I want the most. I can't stand stained white sweaters!! Good wintercoats are hard to find. I think I have to put my hands on a parka soon (only so I can survive!).

  9. I'm really interested in buying the kid's version in white, so I'd also be interested as well to see how it turned out re: sizing for TJP. I'm a size 2 so not sure which to go for.. In your opinion DF, would this sweater look better slightly oversized (read: baggy), or a bit shrunken?

  10. Del: That's my problem, I don't know YET. I need to try the sweaters in a small and big size in order to make up my mind, but there's no L.L. Bean in Norway. *sigh* I normally like a tad baggy sweaters (like the black one I'm wearing in a couple of posts below.. my dad's sweater). But cable knitted sweaters are really nice "shrunken". But when it comes to shrunken sweaters, they cannot show off my body silhouette.. they must be boxy in other words.. haha

  11. Del: .. and I think I'd go for a "shrunken size" with a boxy-fit. I don't think the material of this sweater is good for a slouchy or oversized look.

  12. Update: I received the boys' size 8 (small) and its perfect (for my size 0 frame): the sleeves are almost 3/4 length, the torso is just at the hip and the fit is just slightly boxy, which is the ideal for this sweater type. It's a really lovely sweater and I can't (maybe) wait for it to be cold enough to wear it.

  13. Hello! I know, I'm commenting way too late on this post, but I got stuck with a similar problem (since the husband put my only warm sweater in the dryer and it emerged vraiement mort..and now we're stuck with a cold front!). I just wanted to tell you that you might want to check out an online store called 'woolover', they aren't any fancy brand but they sell good quality british wool sweaters for an awesome price, and the reviews are very good. I'm getting a lambswool fisherman sweater and the everyday zip cardigan…
