A.P.C. + leopard coat

(via viceland)

Some of you might have gained the impression that I’m completely into clean and stark minimalist style. Well, not completely. Stella McCartney or Céline from top to toe is not what I am striving for style-wise, even though I think the style is tremendously stunning and inspirational. I adore the effortless, unfussy, unadorned and powerfully understated aspects of minimalist style. But on the contrary, my Balenciaga motorcycle bag isn’t exactly the epitome of minimalist style. My Isabel Marant boots in taupe don’t slither into the understated category – my sister refers to them as “western/cowboy boots”. But the way I choose to combine those items makes a simple and modest aesthetic. I love the way my Balenciaga edges my simple outfits, and my Isabel Marant boots make my outfits slightly unpredictable.

Frankly, I do have a love for some flamboyant garments. For instance, I’ve always wanted this leopard coat from A.P.C. ever since I saw the photo of Valentine Fillol-Cordier wearing it as if it’s a classic black coat. I think it’s from 2007 or 2008. Leopard prints can easily be associated with tackiness, but I believe leopard print clothing can be worn in an unfussy and understand way if it’s done right. I utterly regret that I didn’t purchase the coat when I spotted it in the A.P.C. store in Paris a couple of years back. Oh well, when I finally settle for a garment, it’s no longer available. Story of my life.

  1. that has always been one of my favorite pictures.it's great that you like to off-set your minimalist aesthetic with pops of individuality, slight unpredictability. i like that!

  2. Ååh, jeg drømmer også om en perfekt leopardjakke. Jeg er usikker på om jeg hadde fått til å kombinere den uten å se tacky ut, men jeg synes det er så utrolig fint på jenter som -virkelig- kler det.

  3. That coat is lovely. I hope you can track it down. I love leopard print as well, but only if it's in small quantity and/or on high quality materials. It's a perfect accent to my otherwise minimalist wardrobe. My favorite belt and flats are this exact print.

  4. Ahh but that is what Ebay is for ;) I too don't like stark/harsh minimalism. I think Topshop brought back their nice leopard coat from last year. I LOVE leopard print, but I'm very particular about it because it has to be done right otherwise it's horrendously tacky.

  5. Catherine: Thank you. You described it perfectly.. haha.. the next time someone asks me what kind of style i have, I'll refer to your description.. haha!Ane Sunde: I know! Tror det hjelper med naturlig og fint hår, naturlig og lite sminke, og et helsort antrekk.TJP: Agree. My mom wears a leopard printed scarf with her always-black ensemble. She looks divine!Pret a porter p: haha, too bad no one has listed that coat :( trust me, I'm an avid ebay-stalker.

  6. Oooh leopard, so timeless. As a child I was a bit meh about it because it's my mother's great love but I've come to see what a great style it is – the romance of cinema, a touch of the exotic, a hint of raw animal edge. There was a good one from Zara last year – looked great, though it felt so-so. I don't like minimalist looks in the stark conceptual sense (like head-to-toe COS) – I like minimalism as an approach; the idea of stripping down to the necessities, the beauty of simplicity, and loving a few things that are absolutely right rather wanting more more more all the time. Sometimes I think I love minimalism because I hate waste and excess. I think your approach to style feels very minimalist, regardless of what you actually wear.

  7. Well, I am not a big fan of patterns (except Breton stripes:) or floral fabrics, because they are harder to mix and match. Leo is another story, it has always been "in" and it's perfect with quality natural fabrics.www.OnlyCoolCats.blogspot.com

  8. well can i tell you that now when i was in paris…in the marais and it was around 11pm..i girl with a leopard coat jumped on the back of her boyfriend's motorcycle…and the 5 of us…were in awe..due to the amount of sexiness and cool that moment provided!

  9. I have always wanted a leopard printed coat! There is just something about them, something so 'cool' [but worn with the proper counterparts as you mentioned]. I have had no such luck finding one though, if just one detail if off they go from looking chic and classy to tacky and trashy. I shall continue my search till I one day succeed. I did love the APC one you mention, it looked so lovely in the pictures. Leave it to APC to create such a lovely piece.

  10. what type of fabric was this leopard printed coat? Was it like wool, or was it fuzzy? Because if it was fuzzy I feel that might looks bad, but I could be wrong.

  11. hmmmmmmm i get that all the time, always regretting on not getting certain things at the time thinking that they're too "trendy" …

  12. That photo reminds me so much of one of my favorite movies, Christiane F..that's so funny – with the plastic bag and everything – I wonder if they were using it as inspiration?
