Occasionally, I look at old Isabel Marant campaigns and collections because they remind me of the reason I fell in love with Isabel Marant in the first place. I really really really do miss the old Isabel Marant. The hype did not only increase the price tags on her clothes, it also made her mainline collections somewhat horrible and tacky. Apparently, the hype affected her personality too, as I find her comments in recent interviews quite ridiculous and pretentious. Let’s hope that said quotes were taken completely out of context. I hope the hype will settle down soon to ensure that she returns to what she used to be good at –creating effortless chic clothes with substance.
I agree! The clothing from the past frew seasons have been horrible and I hate the fact that she's so 'trendy' now. Her old collections will always be an inspiration for me though!Btw, I love what you wore today!;)
Some days I miss the old Isabel Marant too. I love her, yes, but ever since the collection she showed with the hot pink I've found myself less interested in some of her things. I hope she'll go back to her older ways.. there wasn't anything in her old adverts, collections etc. that I didn't like.
^ haha, I mentioned the hot pink (uggh) in my blog post but removed it before i published it. i want her to be that mysterious designer she used to be. no images online etc..
After reading your post, I first thought we should wait and see for the upcoming collection, but something tells me what you wrote will still be relevant after the show. I don't really picture Marant going backwards from now on.But I was wondering about this Fleurette: you talk a lot about Isabel Marant in your blog, but who are your other favorite designers (if any)?
oh i love her old collections as well…fingers crossed too that what she said was taken out of context!
ritournelleblog: I've been thinking the same after every catastrophic show she's been doing from the past few seasons.. "let's hope that she'll make anything à la isabel marant 2008".. i only see 80's, glam, glitter and hot pink :(My other favorite designers: Hedi Slimane, Balenciaga, A.P.C., Dries Van Noten, Vanessa Bruno, Lanvin, Stella McCartney, Celine (Phoebe Philo), Martin Margiela, Ann Demuelemeester, Jil Sander.. hmm. And probably a few more!
yes I agree with you. to be honest, when I see IM's cult nowadays, it's making wonder, are you really buying her things for her design or just for the hype? Also, it's quite ridiculous how now people see her designs as parisienne. don't know… just saying….http://unefilleunreve.blogspot.com
oh just to be more correct, I was referring to most people out there, not "you" you Fleurette :-)http://unefilleunreve.blogspot.com
2 years later and that campaign is still hot.
I totally agree, especially about her comments, she seems very disconnected…in a bad way. I also think it was harsh to say ""Big breasts and lips. No! I hate those girls," women can't help those things, I get that she likes a more understated look, which I do too, but I would never say I "hate" someone's features. Also, it sort of bothers me that she is so disconnected with the final product and has very little to do with the styling on the runways. I understand that designers of stylists to help, but I think I remember her saying that she only designs "pieces." It's sort of corny, but I like it when designers give a silly little back story, like "this is a girl that travels the world, her favorite place is India…."
^^Also, maybe if she helped with the styling it would stop going in the Balmain direction
I used to love her nonchalant approach to design but everything is so overly commercialized now. The older collections are still so inspirational – just simple, classic designs which are desirable precisely for that fact but now the styling is all off and rather than being drawn to the whole look I now only find certain pieces that I like.http://herribbonsandherbows.blogspot.com/
amaizing photos!
the photos are really inspiring :)
where can I see older Isabel Marant collections? Thank you!
